I got this by email from a friend a few minutes ago. It's a Huffington Post video made by Max Blumenthal. He interviews a number of Republican students who are gung ho in their support for the Iraq war.

If the Democrats will turn their great slime machine up full blast this early, they must really be afraid of what's in store for them in the next election. Nancy Pelosi and "Dirty Harry" Reid have pushed the approval rating of this congress down to 14%! That is about the summer humidity in my part of the Nevada desert.

As it happens, a fellow English teacher, from a language school I work at, went back to the US a few weeks ago. He has some strange politics, which frankly baffle me. Jay believes that the US policy in Iraq is correct. He went back to join up for paratroop training at the age of forty one. If I were a praying man, I'd be praying for him to come home safely. I like the man very much.
You will not need me to spell out why I feel the way I do about those creeps in the video. That riff raff is going to run your society if you let it. If I were an American, I would be looking at the more immediate threat to my country.

These are not a new breed. I clearly remember the same sorts when I went to grad school in the states, in the Reagan years. Having just got off the boat from Canada, I admit they caused my most severe instances of culture shock. I had never seen anything like them. The ones I met were not quite so dimwitted, but then this film shows a biased selection.

Following his fourteenth birthday in 1941, Ratzinger was enrolled in the Hitler Youth — membership being legally required after December 1939[4] — but was an unenthusiastic member and refused to attend meetings[5]. His father was a bitter enemy of Nazism, believing it conflicted with the Catholic faith. In 1941, one of Ratzinger's cousins, a 14-year-old boy with Down syndrome, was killed by the Nazi regime in its campaign of eugenics. In 1943 while still in seminary, he was drafted at age 16 into the German anti-aircraft corps. Ratzinger then trained in the German infantry, but a subsequent illness precluded him from the usual rigours of military duty. As the Allied front drew closer to his post in 1945, he deserted back to his family's home in Traunstein after his unit had ceased to exist, just as American troops established their headquarters in the Ratzinger household. I know a man - also the son of a Nazi non-supporter, as was the current pope- who was in the Hitler Youth. It was mandatory.
