Gadaffy is a dangerous nutcase, but he's OUR dangerous nutcase. That's why France are selling him nuclear reactors, anmd everyone else is giving him juicy trade deals. If he was their nutcase, we'd be applying sanctions.

Oh I do not believe for one second that Gadaffi is anything other than his own man. That he has proved time and time again. With the collapse of Soviet Russia and the end of the "Cold War" and in the wake of 911, Gadaffi saw exactly what way the wind was blowing and heeded all the signs. He made all the right moves and made damn sure that no-one, particularly the US, could accuse his Libya of being a potential "rogue nation". As a result of that Gadaffi is still there as the power behind the regime. Saddam Hussein on the otherhand did not, he believed his own publicity and took heed of some very bad advice from his main trading partners. He publicly applauded the 911 attackers and increased his funding of terrorist organisations. Saddam is no longer still around, he could have been, if he had done the same as Gadaffi in Libya - it always was his choice.
