Subject: Aunt Sue (Pete Sutherland) - tune??
From: Joe Offer
Date: 17 Apr 99 - 06:38 PM

I was looking through the database in connection with the "songs about singers" thread, and I came across the lyrics for Pete Sutherland's AUNT SUE (click, please). It sounds like it would be a wonderful song to learn. Can anybody post the tune, or do you know where I could find a (CD) recording of the song? I know it's on Pete's Flying Fish cassette, "Poor Man's Dream," but I save my money for CDs.

Joe, I found those lyrics about the time I found the Mudcat, and I still don't know the tune. Sure would like to hear it, the words are very touching. I'd like to learn it, too.

Thank you for posting the lyrics. I'd send you a copy, but I only have it on tape. Pete is on facebook, and I believe he still has copies of 'poor mans' for sale. HIGHLY recommended listening!

Rats! I do know the tune but cannot send it as I don't know how! It's a beautiful melody played at a lively rhythm. Hope somebody else can help. I saw and admired Pete (and Karen's) performances at the Champlain Valley Folk Festival. What an accomplished fiddler and singer he is!

Miracles happen. I finally uploaded Pete's song on Youtube. This is one of many wonderful songs on the album, still available from Pete.

Thanks for the info, GUEST! I simply love this song since I heard him perform it many years ago.

There's a delightfully bizarre little song called "Aunt Sue's Ant Soup," recorded by The Blenders (at the time, a mostly-a cappella group) on their album From the Mouth. Not the same song as Sutherland's, of course; this one was written by P. Dunkirk and The Blenders. Just thought I'd toss that in.
