Two weeks to go and am I the only person worrying? My son and his friends all seem to be taking this in their stride, and I'm becoming a nervous wreck.

Is it me ?????

Any other parents out there - how are you coping ???

Spare a thought for the teachers - this is my thirtysomethingth year of waiting! It was easy when it was my own daughter as I knew that she had done the necessary and would get the resullts she deserved. The depreesing thing is watching those young people who could get great results and don't realise until its too late.

Until it's too late... that's the sad thing about our education system, that it forces pupils to work to a fixed timetable, when their aptitudes and interests develop at such disparate rates. rather than compulsory education up to 16 (or 18), I'd rather see more opportunity for people to step back into education as they become mature enough to appreciate the value of it.

Yes quite right I had forgotten about all you teachers, how on earth do you enjoy your holidays.

Wouldn't it be better if they could do the exams earlier, so that the results came at the beginning of the holidays. Perhaps that would also give the pupils time to absorb the results and plan what they need to do, the end of August all seems a bit rushed to me.

Hmmm.....I just posted to this thread but my post hasn't appeared. Odd.

Yes, I am waiting too but not worrying. My son will get mostly, or possibly all As and A*s.

He worked hard and didn't stress much during the exams but he is getting a bit stressed now waiting for the results

I too am waiting for Tamsyn's GCSE results, she is quite laid back about it all. I have no idea what grades she will get, projected grades are not always accurate, as you never know what the exam day will bring. I wish i could say Tam is going to get all As and A*s but I prefer not to heap pressure on her, I will be proud of her whatever her grades, she worked hard and has blossomed in the last few months into a beautiful young lady (most of the time). She has started singing too. I am glad to say that the child I once doubted would ever get this far has made me so proud already. Good grades would just be icing on the cake.
Cheers, Lucy

Quite honestly I don't give a flying fuck! ...Just found out today my daughters has got three A levels, I've always told my kids there are more things to life than passing exams, passing exams don't necessarily bring happiness and wealth so what is the point in worrying! Fine if you get them but don't stress yourself if you don't! Try as hard as you can and see what happens!
That's my advice, take it or leave it!
It's better to be alive and failed your exams than one of the many over the past few years who have got so wound up about the prospect of failure that they have committed suicide!

Well rightly or wrongly I do give a 'F' 'F'.

We have put no pressure at all on our son, and I agree that there is more to life than passing exams. But he has given up so much over the past 12 months, and worked so hard to try and get the results he wants. I just dont want him to feel that all that hard work was for nothing if his grades are not what he hopes for.

Congratulations to your girl.

I agree to some extent Bruce, and I've tried to let my kids know that it isn't the end of the world if they don't get brilliant results, but I DO give a ....whatever. I want them to do as well as possible both now and later in life so that they can achieve the careers they want to.

I see for the 25th year in a row, N Ireland have had the best average, could it be that the thick paddies are not so thick after all.

To be honest, the results and averages are a load of rubbish. There are a lot of factors not taken into account in those sort of figures. Like the ridiculous 'league tables' they make of schools.

I imagine there are as many thick paddies and intelligent ones as there are of anyone else. It's never occured to me to differentiate. I wonder why you do?

Until Mrs Sooz reminded me today and wished my daughter luck, I hadn't even thought much about it.

All I said to my daughter when she started the GCSE's was you can only do your best and as long as she tries then we are with her and not to worry. She has ADHD so we are not expecting miracle results.
She is going to stay on for at least another year (her choice) and we will see what happens.

Fingers crossed here for all awaiting their results, I am sure, villain that your daughter will make you proud, whatever her results.
I do give a flying fig for what Tammy gets, but its for her self esteem, which has at times been sadly lacking due to bullying and her shyness, rather than because I am a pushy parent. As long as she is happy with her results, I am.
I am out all day on Thursday, on an exhibition stand at an agricultural show, so her Dad is taking her to get them, I really feel like I am missing out, but then I saw her walk first, heard her talk first and all that so I guess that's fair!
Keep us posted, hopoe all get what they widsh for........
Cheers, Lucy who has lost her cookie and is also Hawker!

i have just recieved my results :) and although i worried a lot it turns out that infact i did rather well.
i'am only in year 10 in school so my results were all modular but my worst mark was a B so the advice that i would give to parents...not having any experience of course :P is after the exams there is nothing you can do except wait so relax and totally forget about it, even 2 hours before the resualts are released theres no need to worry because whatever hsppens happended when the exams were taken.

He got Bs in woodwork and RS, As in English language, physics, chemistry, biology and music and A*s in English lit, French, German and maths. we are very happy! I've got a bottle of bubbly in the fridge!

Congratulations to our youngsters, who gave such a good account of themselves, in spite of all the government did to ensure failure.

Congratulations too to all the teachers who managed to find time amid the masses of unnecessary paperwork, actually to TEACH.

Perseverence under fire brought success.

Now, if we can only get the message through to New Labour, "If it ain't broke stop trying to fix it.

Bonzo3legs, a C in GCSE was a C in O level. There was a continuum, one to the other. The offshoot was the long-since-scrapped CSE.

No doubt the press will perform the annual breast-beating, teacher-slagging dance. If the results get better it's because the exams are easier (not because pupils are working well or that teachers are teaching to the exam more successfully, despite government targets to do so). If the results get worse then it's obviously because the teachers are failing. Whatever the outcome, teachers and/or the education system get the blame: the teachers and students never get the credit.

The mile and the marathon can now be run by athletes at speeds unthinkable in pre-WWII Britain. Is anyone suggesting the mile or the marathon has got shorter or easier?

Well done Tammy!

I was quite surprised to find that Richard is actually quite upset at his one C. He didn't expect it and it's bothered him far more than it should. It's a subject that he hated, had to do and doesn't matter to his future at all so I can't see why he is so bothered

Well done to all the kids here. There is so much pressure to perform nowadays that it must be a real relief to get the good results mentioned.

It's a shame that wet blankets have to try and rain on the parade.

Daughter Rosanna got 8 A's and two B's and is now 'quietly celebrating' at Reading festival. She didn't ask me along, strangely !

Well done to everyone, results aren't everything but getting the balance right is important I feel..
