CD's can be considered weapons, they are not allowed in many of the country's prisons. They're afraid that the inmates will display bad taste in music & brake the CD's & use the shape edges to cut up those that sound flat.

Seems only yesterday I got my reel-to-reel state of the art contraption. Got my first CD player two years ago. I don't see switching from VHS any time soon.

I keep reading articles about how the CD is outmoded and will be replaced soon. I dunno. It's a nice size, and the sound is (or can be) as good as anyone could possibly want. Why not keep it around for another fifty years?

When MP3 machines of Gb capacity (solid state) the question of medium will be sorted. The problem of retrival changes somewhat.

Then there is jpg storage and then movie.

Parkinson's Law was universal. Work expands to fill the time alloted for it's completion.

roads, storage, spending, pub opening hours - it all fits.

Remember when they drove a tractor over one and it still played perfectly (Tomorrow's World, BBC TV)?

I had dreadful trouble getting a CD to play at the weekend... a single cat hair was the fault.
