Subject: RE: Favourite closure song From: Leadbelly Date: 09 Sep 07 - 12:15 PM Dave, why not "So long,.."? Is it worn-out? What about "Irene, good night"? That's from the same worn-out category, isn't it?? Or? Manfred |

Subject: RE: Favourite closure song From: open mike Date: 09 Sep 07 - 12:27 AM the toast "kind friends and companions come join me in song..." A Health to the Company ....usually i sing it acapella or accompanied by bodhran |
Subject: RE: Favourite closure song From: M.Ted Date: 08 Sep 07 - 11:26 PM "Goodnight, Sweetheart", on the odd occasion that I might play for someone anymore. Back when I had a Folkdance Band, it was either Makedonsko Devojce or Trugnala Rumjana, which were extremely moving, because everyone would sing while they danced-- |

Subject: RE: Favourite closure song From: Mark Ross Date: 08 Sep 07 - 07:36 PM I always liked to end with HARD TIMES COME AGAIN NO MORE by Stephen Foster. Either that , or HOW CAN I KEEP FROM SINGING. Mark Ross |
Subject: RE: Favourite closure song From: GUEST,Bert on Kelly's machine. Date: 08 Sep 07 - 07:33 PM Way back on Mudcat Radio when we had Bill Sables and friends visiting, we each sang a 'goodbye' song. It would be fun to have that session made into a CD or DVD. How about it Max? |
Subject: RE: Favourite closure song From: Genie Date: 08 Sep 07 - 07:03 PM Depends a lot on the kind of program I'm doing and for what audience or group. "The Parting Glass" is pretty much always a good one, but sometimes "Show Me The Way To Go Home" fits better. ;) Others I sometimes use: Vaya Con Dios (en Español) So Long, It's Been Good To Know Ya Leaving Liverpool Po Tari Au (Now Is The Hour) Will The Circle Be Unbroken? I'll Be Seeing You (No, not all my gigs are for "folk" audiences.) At gigs for Jewish audiences, my standard closure song is a medley of "Havenu Shalom Aleichem," "Shalom Chaverim," and "Lo Yisa Goy." |
Subject: RE: Favourite closure song From: MystMoonstruck Date: 08 Sep 07 - 07:02 PM The Parting Glass There's another, "Bring on the Starlight", but I weep embarraassingly when this is sung. "The Parting Glass" is safer. |
Subject: RE: Favourite closure song From: Leadbelly Date: 08 Sep 07 - 06:17 PM Thanks Dave, very nice lyrics! By the way, I did make a mistake. I meant closing songs instead of closure songs. Don't know whether it's the same. Manfred |
Subject: RE: Favourite closure song From: GUEST,Arnie at work Date: 08 Sep 07 - 06:16 PM If I'm the last singer at a folk club, I usually end with 'All the Good Times are past and gone'. Probably not the best lyrics for a finishing song but it's a got a great chorus for the audience to belt out. I think everyone goes home happy if they've had a good sing-song at the end of the evening. |
Subject: RE: Favourite closure song From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 08 Sep 07 - 06:11 PM Here's the link to Uncle_DaveO's Section at Motagator You can listen to and/or download any of the songs I have there, for free. Dave Oesterreich |
Subject: RE: Favourite closure song From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 08 Sep 07 - 06:04 PM I'll be accused of self-promotion, I suppose, but I usually use a song I wrote, She'd Rather Make Coffee Than Love I see that in originally posting it to Mudcat I called it "I'd Rather" etc., but it has become "She'd rather". And sometimes I and others refer to it as "The Starbuck Song". In another posting, I'll give the link for my site at Motagator, where you can listen to it, as well as a few other songs I sing. Always a crowd-pleaser. And gives me an ego rush. Dave Oesterreich |
Subject: Favourite closure song From: Leadbelly Date: 08 Sep 07 - 05:34 PM Although there was a similar thread in 2001, I'm interested in your favourite closure song you sing before leaving stage (or whatever). Manfred |
