Mentioned previously up above, the confusion between MySpace and FaceBook:

At MySpace you don't have to register/log in in order to browse. Individual persons may tag their pages as private so that you have to be their "friend" to see any details for the relative few who've gone that way. The individual person who owns the page can have separate "details" that are public and others that are private.

FaceBook has previously been "members only" so you were required to log in (which means register first) in order to see anything. A recently announced change in policy allows unregistered people to "browse," but what you can see is extremely limited. It's essentially like a MySpace with everybody defaulted to "private."

At least that's what it says in the newspapers.

You can't tell me that it is not deliberate when he writes his name "jOhn" instead of "John". He always does it the same way. That suggests to me not dyslexia but a form of humourous intent on jOhn's part. Seems to me that a dyslexic would sometimes get it right and sometimes get it wrong...not ALWAYS get it wrong in exactly the same way.

I don't believe "Tom" is the help desk at all. No self-respecting desk is going to call itself "Tom". Desks are far too serious natured to go around shortening their names. If a desk is named "Thomas", it's going to call itself "Thomas", not shorten it to "Tom". My own desk's name is "Lawrence" and it get's downright livid if someons calls it "Larry".

I used to know a guy named Tom. Tom Duddledorfer was his name. Still is, I suppose. Anyway, I haven't seen him in a month or more of Sundays. We used to go bowling, playing ten pins. Nice place, automatic pin setting machines and everything. My father-in-law used to bowl duck pins, but then he was from New England. Even so, he won a couple trophies. Funny this should come up now, just when I got an email from Facebook about a perfect stranger who had added me as a friend. I DID join Facebook a little while back, but I only have 3 friends so far, and they are all people I know.

So I looked up this person and he has accumulated a lot of new friends in the last few hours. I don't think I'll be confirming this one. Even if he DOES want me to join the World Naked Bike Ride ;-)

Greg, make sure you join Myspace as a band if you're going to do that. That way you are set up properly for advertising your music. And if you do (as The Boat Band or whatever) send a friend request to Mary and me!

Tell me about it! I got an email from a friend telling me to look at her myspace page. WEell I tried, and found you have to sign in and join up to look. The next minute, just likew sir JOhn, I find half a dozen people want to be my friends, half of whom I've never heard of in my life. One was even called quiddity quidnunc. What kind of person is called quiddity quidnunc? Anyway, what I want to know is, how does the myspace computer find these people? Does it look inside my address book and match it up with people already on myspace? And if so, how does it get into my address book? Isn't there any security? It's all bloody weird, if you ask me.
Now, if dear sir JOhn, who is a thoroughly good egg, turend up asking to be my firned, I'd be delighted. But these others! "Who are these people? Where do they find them?" as the great Nikki Graham once nearly said.
   And they not only want to be your friends. The next minute the silly buggers want to poke you, or hug you, or send you flowers, or belong to some stupid network or other, or make you their Superspecial Extra Freind or something, or they want you to turn up at some event they are organising, which you think might be a nice party but it's actually a gig you have to pay £12.50 to go to.
    MInd you this is just facebook. I tried to start a myspace entry a while back, I thought it was good for advertising gigs, or so it said in the Guardian. The next minute I started getting messages(with photos) from blondes in bikinis(some of them hugging other friends in blonde bikinis in an over-familiar way) all wanting to be my friends. And they are all called things like Raviola and Lentilla and stuff. What's that all about, then?

I've gotten some new "friends" "joining" my MSN group too, and when I email them to ask how they found the unlisted page-- from a separate spam-open account I have-- oddly enough, I get no reply! :~) It's one where the manager/admin (me) has to approve the "new member," so they just don't get approved.
