Subject: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: sapper82 Date: 06 Oct 07 - 03:34 PM Had some fun and games on a track testing run to Newcastle on thu night with the NMT, the train was stoned at Doncaster. Bloody big bang in instrumentation coach as a stone somehow failed to break the window. Left a big gouge in the outer skin though so will need to be replaced as a precaution. Then, when we got to York, we found that a window in the conference coach had been smashed and had to remove the glass before we could proceed. Eventually 1½ hours late at Heaton depot. Missed the restaurant in the hotel so had to go for a take away I know what I'd like to do to the s**** who do this!! |

Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: sapper82 Date: 06 Oct 07 - 03:44 PM Had a nasty one when I worked for Midland Main Line Peace, stone broke both skins of the window and a lass got a facefull of glass fragments. Came close to costing her her eyesight. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: Leadfingers Date: 06 Oct 07 - 03:48 PM We have a nice new recycling Plant at the local Tesco Supermarket - Sipe your Club Card , and get points for the glass and cans that you feed in for recycling - Now ALL closed down and fenced off due to Vandalism ! The Upper Classes say " Its a lovely day , let go out and kill something" The Lower classes say "Its a nice day . lets go and wreck something useful" |
Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: Rapparee Date: 06 Oct 07 - 05:32 PM You couldn't perhaps get the two together could you, Leadfinger? Could solve a lot of problems on both sides.... Graffitists in my town got a surprise. They decided to paint up the pedestrian underpasses beneath the train tracks. They didn't notice the cameras, and wondered how the police knew.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 07 Oct 07 - 04:56 AM here in Oz we've had a recent spate of large stones thrown at cars & trucks - one young woman was badly injured, & others have had lucky escapes. It seems to go in cycles as we've has tall wire fences along overhead roads for years since this passtime started. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: Catherine Jayne Date: 07 Oct 07 - 05:00 AM I don't understand why people act like this, do their parents not teach them respect? Glad that no-one was hurt. |

Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: Mr Red Date: 07 Oct 07 - 07:01 AM a motorcyclist ran into a brick dangled from a bridge a few years back. He was relatively luck in that it broke a collarbone. But he was a hospital case. Birmingham, inner city - not a nice area. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: Lepus Rex Date: 07 Oct 07 - 08:15 PM "They see it in video games, and don't realise that it actually hurts and/or kills!" Whoa, I've got that game! "Throwing Big Rocks at Trains and Not Really Hurting Anyone." Thank fucking Christ I'm not a kid anymore, or who knows what I'd do... Seriously, don't blame video games, dude. People are just cocks. They've always been. There's just more shiny things for them to throw rocks at now. ---Lepus Rex |
Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: Stu Date: 08 Oct 07 - 04:33 AM I blame Margaret Effing Thatcher. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: Grab Date: 08 Oct 07 - 08:16 AM Hey Rapaire, some folks already thought of that. Head over to YouTube and search for "chav hunting"... :-) As Lepus says, some folks are just cocks. Either they're naturally cocks, or their folks didn't raise them with values. Either way, they're no bloody good. So it has always been, and so it will always be, unless some government decides to enforce mass sterilisation and require citizenship tests to have a family. And as for video games, I've run up more corpses on screen than the Mafia, the Yakuza and the Spanish Inquisition put together. Most of my mates have too - we're the first generation that was raised on shooting stuff on computers. And none of us are likely to go and do it for real. Graham. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: The PA Date: 08 Oct 07 - 09:08 AM I think we need to be careful with the area/class thing. I had the paint on my car scratched and the rubber corner of the bumper ripped off over night, and we live in a village in a rural area. It happens everywhere, not just in the city. One problem we have is dog walkers bagging up their dog crap and then chucking the bag into our fields rather than taking it home. Thats vandalism too, in my book. Some may say that dosent hurt anyone, well it does when it happens on a public footpath. The poor bugger from the parish council was strimming so that these 'walkers' could get along easier and got covered in dog shit. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: Jean(eanjay) Date: 08 Oct 07 - 09:17 AM A lot of dog walkers are very responsible, but unfortunately not all of them are (like everything really). I've seen a bag of **** hung on someone's garden railings. I agree, it is unpleasant and a form of vandalism. I feel very sorry for the strimmer - just trying to do his job to help the community. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: John MacKenzie Date: 08 Oct 07 - 09:19 AM I'd like to hear your explanation of that remark Stigweard. I do hope you're not just one of those silly peeps who blame her for everything, up to and including the war in Iraq? G ¦¬] |

Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: SINSULL Date: 08 Oct 07 - 11:39 AM A few years back, some idiot threw a bowling ball from an overpass in Brooklyn. It went through the front window missing both passengers but killed a child in the back seat. I don't understand how anyone could think this was a prank. On the lighter side: I took a train from NYC to Buffalo over the New Year's holiday. Late at night; everyone dozing. Something goes shooting around the car causing a panic. People on the floor. Everyone assumed it was a sniper. Some poor woman had packed an open bottle of champagne in her suitcase. The pressure shot off the cork which ricocheted around the train. Embarrassing. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: John MacKenzie Date: 08 Oct 07 - 11:58 AM Hee hee, I had a bottle of Portuguese sparkling rosé in the side pocket of my rucsac, which was in the overhead luggage rack of the carriage, on a train going from Oporto to Paris. Same thing happened, only the poor guy sitting underneath got soaked. Good job there hadn't been space directly above where I was sitting! Giok |

Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: catspaw49 Date: 08 Oct 07 - 01:58 PM The "Heavy Object Off Freeway Overpass Onto Car Windshield" is very popular here in the U.S. Large rocks, concrete blocks, iron bars, etc., have all injured and killed motorists. Awhile back two kids threw a dog off one into an oncoming car but the driver saw them and barely avoided the dog which fortunately only had a leg fracture. People sent in loads of money for the dog and their heartfelt desires to throw the kids off an overpass. Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 08 Oct 07 - 10:00 PM spaw - I was going to ask if athorities tried to put fences along overpasses to stop the throwing as they have tried here but I found an image of vandal fences for overpasses just like we have! I assume the sheer size of the US road system means that every overpass can't be fenced. I think our fences starting going up on roads where there had been "incidents" & gradually covered all/most overpasses. sandra |

From: The Vulgar Boatman Date: 09 Oct 07 - 06:02 PM and then... when one of the little darlings injures itself in the attempt, those who are supposed to exercise care and control over the dear little (son of no father) attempt to sue the owners / operators / victims on the grounds that it wasn't safe enough to vandalise. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: catspaw49 Date: 09 Oct 07 - 07:02 PM Size of the highway system and this country are an element I'm sure Sandra, as is the money.. We have seen a lot of fencing erected over the past few years but there are probably less than 20% of the overpasses done. Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 13 Oct 07 - 09:21 PM I am ruminating on an evil scheme to turn graffiti writers' own efforts against them. This is probably the cheapest, most effective way. For example, some dork scrawled 'Hip Harold' on the recycling bin at the church. How do you think it would be if I added 'slept here' in a similar scrawl? Or how about, when some kid sprays 'Chico' on a brick school building, I add 'His mother thinks he's watching his baby sister.' (My home is located between two huge hospitals. I'm sure that many graffiti artists are sneaking out of the house while their mothers are cleaning floors, doing laundry, and nursing patients all night long. They think/hope their sons are safe at home, the stupid little jerks. The police say that only the worst elements of society are out and about at the same time as these kids.) Other possible additions: wets the bed. - kid at risk. can't even spell. thinks this is intelligible. Here's my favorite: Graffiti - slavishly imitative the world over. I would have to find a marker that lasts a while but then is easy to clean up. Something of a challenge there. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: Rapparee Date: 13 Oct 07 - 09:28 PM Yes, but it's also a way that gangs and gang wannabees have of marking their territoy (much like an unneutered cat or dog does). We're starting to have the problem here -- yesterday we found graffiti for a local wannabee-gang called the "Invisible Hobos" on a bench; the cops photographed it and we removed it. If you DON'T act on it it only acts as a magnet for more. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: open mike Date: 14 Oct 07 - 01:07 AM yes, and beware of Goths and Visigoths, too The Vandals were an East Germanic tribe which entered the late Roman Empire during the 5th century. The Goth Theodoric the Great, king of the Ostrogoths and regent of the Visigoths, was allied by marriage with the Vandals, as well as with the Burgundians and the Franks under Clovis I. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: Rowan Date: 14 Oct 07 - 01:43 AM Not as deadly as objects thrown at moving vehicles but almost as depressing; Our local art gallery has a collection of sculptures distributed in the parklike gardens surrounding it. Last night every one of the 20-odd sculptures was damaged by dickheads. Some were on loan from the sculptors and now, all will be removed. Rowan |
Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 14 Oct 07 - 05:40 PM 'If you DON'T act on it it only acts as a magnet for more.' I agree, Rapaire. The church has done nothing to get rid of graffiti. Recently I painted my porch, and when I was done I walked down there with a roller full of gray paint and painted over the graffiti myself. No recurrence so far. I still like the idea of telling the little turkeys that cool, tough Hip Harold actually sleeps in the recycling bin. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: Little Hawk Date: 14 Oct 07 - 05:53 PM Back in the grand old days of the Empire (drum roll, please...) these smouldering destructive passions of Britain's upper and lower classes were defused by a simple method...they were sent abroad to kill natives and foreigners in distant places. The upper class types got to be officers, while the lower classes filled out the rank and file. With their red coats and their bayonets and cannon they wreaked bloody havoc for King and country from Ulundi to Mandalay. It was a bloody good system. If Rudyard Kipling could see how things are now, he'd be deeply depressed... *** I hate graffiti artists too, by the way. I think they should be made to remove the graffiti by licking it off with their tongues. It might take a fair while. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bloody Vandals!! From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 15 Oct 07 - 02:01 AM Little Hawk, that's the best graffiti-removal method I've ever heard of! |
