Subject: Kathy Mattea - 'Coal' album coming 2008 From: Joe Offer Date: 11 Oct 07 - 02:44 PM Kathy Mattea was in Sacramento last week, but I didn't find out about the concert until it was over (I'm slow reading the newspaper). I've always enjoyed her singing, and now she's apparently taken a more traditional direction in her music. She has recorded a number of songs about coal mining, and the album will be released in 2008 - titled Coal. There's a very nice preview of the album here (click) -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Kathy Mattea - 'Coal' album coming 2008 From: Tunesmith Date: 11 Oct 07 - 04:21 PM I LOVE Kathy Mattea! Nice to hear that she's something more traditional as I've been a bit disappointed with some of her more recent albums; for example, I thought the Christmas album was weak. |
Subject: RE: Kathy Mattea - 'Coal' album coming 2008 From: Barry Finn Date: 11 Oct 07 - 04:23 PM Thanks for the thread & the Link Joe, her song "Coal Tattoo" by Billy Ed Wheeler & his "Pretty Little Bird" & Si Kahn's newer "One Man Dean on the Harlan County Line" are great. I'm not really a fan of hers but this seems like something of hers I'd be likely to pick up. Have to see what else she's gonna have on it, so far it's wonderful. Barry |
Subject: RE: Kathy Mattea - 'Coal' album coming 2008 From: GUEST,TJ in San Diego Date: 11 Oct 07 - 04:25 PM From the first time I heard this lady sing, I thought she would have been a "natural" as a folk singer. She has the sort of vocal purity, richness and timbre that seem made-to-order for traditional music. If that is where she's decided to go, I heartily concur. |
