Subject: BS: G'bye Daily Show & Jon From: Donuel Date: 16 Oct 07 - 10:05 AM The TV writers strike is apparently on which means shows like the Daily show will be going to reruns very soon. The writers want dividends from DVD sales and other rerun profits no matter what the device it is played on. The network does not want to pay the writers after the work is created. The networks have a big bargaining chip called Reality TV shows which has no ties to the writers guild. Stay tuned for new reality shows like SURVIVAL - the walking tour of American ghettos. People are let loose in SE DC or Baltimore or Newark or other choice neighborhoods and required to walk to city hall. As contestants get eliminated the drop off time gets later until the finale starts at midnight. Yep if you have a reality show this is the golden opportunity for you to pitch it at the networks. |

Subject: RE: BS: G'bye Daily Show & Jon From: Mickey191 Date: 16 Oct 07 - 01:17 PM The Daily Show in repeats-one can only hope they play one of the funniest & weirdest from 5 or so years ago. A modern chastity saver (with a wee lock) invented by a traveling salesman's wife. Made of HARD CLEAR plastic - the male genitalia is pushed & pulled thru it & then locked in. The great selling point? I don't know how or why- but things get bigger. Oh JOY! |

Subject: RE: BS: G'bye Daily Show & Jon From: Ebbie Date: 17 Oct 07 - 02:06 PM As of today, I don't think it is in repeats. Tonight's segment will be on the movie, 'Rendition'. |

Subject: RE: BS: G'bye Daily Show & Jon From: Donuel Date: 18 Oct 07 - 01:41 PM I don't see any effects of a strike yet either. The Daily show is multi writer and special graphics intensive but The Colbert segments could most easily continue with Steve's schticks alone, but would that make him a scab? |
Subject: RE: BS: G'bye Daily Show & Jon From: GUEST,Wayne Monroe Date: 18 Oct 07 - 08:43 PM I recall the last writer's strike and Letterman remained live and apparently wrote his own stuff. |
Subject: RE: BS: G'bye Daily Show & Jon From: Ebbie Date: 19 Oct 07 - 12:30 PM One thing that I frequently forget: Most of these talk show hosts started out as stand up comedians. I understand that Jay Leno still does a great deal of it. |
