That was the Ross Theater in "beautiful" downtown Toledo Art....It has been torn down and replaced by a "government" building....Progress   !!!!       Frank of Toledo

We saw the Quatermas film "Five Million Years To Earth" in an old theater in Toledo, Oregon. It's still one of my favorite scary sci-fi movies.

I was just a teenager and I tried to make myself look older to get into the clubs. But it seemed like the folks in charge of making sure that "us underage folks" weren't allowed in did a wee wink and nod for me. I never drank alchohol in those places, I just wanted to hear the music and that seemed to be understood.

Ah---good memories--from all those good clubs. I opened for Mimi Farina at Amazing Grace--when it was in that rather out-of-place wooden building in the middle of the Northwestern U. campus. What a charmer she was!

Hey Art,

At that point (and I'm showing my age here) I was in high school but I was trying to see as much of the folks scene as my tender young age would let me. Amazing Grace, Holstein's, Earl, Quiet Knight, I tried to be there.

I am sure I must have seen you perform at some point then, Art. But no, we never did meet. My loss.

After heading West from Chicago, in 1967 we opened our FOLK ART SHOP in Depoe Bay, Oregon. We were 10 or 15 years ahead of any real kind of folk scene there.

(I guess it's all in the timing! ;-)

So I headed back to Chicago, where being a folksinger was at least a possibility.
A question: Did I know you in Chi-town? I think I did!?!?

As a UK citizen I have been lucky enough to visit Oregon (what a great state) and also met Deb C (I was the bookseller at the National, Deb).

They were made for each other. Go see - she is a great singer.

This coming Saturday, October 27th the Toledo Folk Music Club will present Debra Cowan in concert in Toledo, Oregon.....Toledo is located 6 miles east of Newport, Oregon on US 20...........Debra is a fine singer & guitarist singing many traditional songs from the British Isles and America.....she has sung back east with John Roberts & Tony Barrand....Also Debra spent quite some time in Northern California.
