Subject: BS: Catspaw. Tell me it ain't true... From: Dave the Gnome Date: 11 Nov 07 - 04:13 PM I was on my way from Edinburgh to Newcastle today and spotted the Catspaw Picnic Area. I was too afraid to stop. Tell me there is realy no such thing! Oh - BTW - It is listed about 2/3 down the page under battlefied and picnic sites. Sounds like the right sort of combination? :D |

Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw. Tell me it ain't true... From: Bert Date: 11 Nov 07 - 04:54 PM Why not? Catspaw is very interested in picnic areas. |

Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw. Tell me it ain't true... From: Micca Date: 12 Nov 07 - 09:12 AM Mrzzy, possibly on a par with the signs being held up by members of the crowd when County Down, Northern Ireland made it to the All-Ireland Finals at Croke Park Dublin which some ch sinply said " Up Down" |
Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw. Tell me it ain't true... From: Fibula Mattock Date: 12 Nov 07 - 02:50 PM "Up Down" was my school motto (well, "Floreat Dunum", which is in essence the same). Then again, I went to the stupidly named "Down High". Hateful place, gah. |
Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw. Tell me it ain't true... From: Dave the Gnome Date: 12 Nov 07 - 02:54 PM Many high places in Derbyshire are called 'Low' as well! Kinder Low, Arbour Low etc. so not only is Up Down sensible but walking up to the low is also possible! :D |

Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw. Tell me it ain't true... From: Dave the Gnome Date: 12 Nov 07 - 05:03 PM I think it could be the highest of the low:-) Getting back to Catspaw... |

Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw. Tell me it ain't true... From: sapper82 Date: 13 Nov 07 - 04:38 PM On the A687 south of Wooler, at Wooperton, the "Catspaw" was a massive bend in the road that was straightened out in the late '60s/ealy '70s. The picnic site given that name is actually misnamed as it is 3/4 of a mile north of the actual cut off bend! |
Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw. Tell me it ain't true... From: Liz the Squeak Date: 13 Nov 07 - 05:23 PM Could be worse... Dorset's main road, the A35 used to have a junction called 'The Monkey's Jump, which then passed through 'Aunt Mary's Bottom'. The roundabout that's replaced the junction is still called 'Monkey's Jump'. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw. Tell me it ain't true... From: Dave the Gnome Date: 13 Nov 07 - 06:31 PM In Saltaire, Bradford, there is an Upper Fanny Street. I pass this on without comment... :D |
