and believe me I have tried- lethargic and completely pointless and with an open cheque from the BBC. Why does he seem to be feted as a genius? I have just watched capturing Mary and I have absolutely no idea what it was about. Crocodiles etc the night before another Great Gatsby lookalike-give us a break mate!

The Beeb have a long history of being unable to discern the difference between genius and self-indulgent claptrap. Beautifully observed and filmed self-indulgent claptrap it's true, with good acting talent but claptrap none the less.

They are blinded by celebrity too, allowing people to make programmes that are crap, or at the least totally unfunny, like Down the Line on Radio4.
Just because it was pitched by and stars, Paul Whitehouse, doesn't mean that it's automatically good.
Still it's not their money they're spending is it?
Giok

Hmm, I thought the new Poliakoff plays were sublime, and Down the Line is one of the funniest things on R4 in a long while. But I'm probably just a pretentious, liberal milksop!

Linda, don't forget these are the same folks who gave Dennis Potter free reign, and Russell T Davies with Doctor Who. I don't know if there's anyone at the Beeb who still knows what a good scriptwriter looks like. :-(

Had to go back a long way there Grab, today's bean counters, and management trainees haven't got the vision.
Giok

Spoilsports - I have it recorded for a rainy day when there is immensely more crappy mental wallpaper plastered (sic) across the medium. In between the wall to wall football..................

Now how can I press that play button when the august members of the 'Cat have pronounced?

well on a positive note it was still marginally better than I'm a Celebrity get me out of Here! Dennis Potter was a long time ago and Russell T is brilliant, but I cannot undertand why Andrew Davies of the smutty historical drama and Mr P find their way onto our screens so often

I thought that 'Capturing Mary' was a very intriguing (and chilling) piece. I've been pleasantly mulling over all its possible layers of meaning all day. Don't dismiss it too lightly until you've thought about who 'Greville' really was, what his motives really were and what, exactly, was haunting Mary. Definitely a big improvement over 'I'm a celebrity ...' - even though it was several orders of magnitude more ambiguous!
