So Matthew where are the Kilmore Quay carols sung?

Apologies if I have offended anyone. The Yorkshire carols and Padstow carols are very closely connected and a few years ago the Padstow Carollers were invited to Sheffield to sing our own carols. It was a magnificent weekend. Ever since then we have kept in contact and let each other know when the events are happening and always send each other best wishes for the carol season. I was just doing what we have done for a while now.

I can't imagine anyone "hating" someone for hi-jacking a thread anyway.

But yes you are right Surreysinger - as well as attending the carols in my area I am interested in the Padstow (and all other) carol traditions.

See this winter edition of English Dance and Song (forthcoming shortly!!)

The list isn't complete yet. Most years, Pat Malham sends me regular updates throughout the season, and I expect that this year will be the same. I always aim to add new information the day I receive it, so do check in regularly for changes; and please let Pat know of anything you're aware of that isn't listed yet. Contact details are on the page.

I've just checked the list - is anything happening at the pub at Upper Denby on New Year's Day? It's the one that replaced the Rag and Louse.

Perplexed, you're being too harsh IMHO - in Cats' defence, I don't think you could say that her comment was actually hijacking the thread in the full sense of the words ... if you're interested in the Sheffield Carols, then I think it's very likely you may be interested in the similar tradition in Padstow.

Cats,

There is really no need to highjack threads. It will result in people hating you.

Start your own thread for Padstow. Please. Pretty please...

Good luck for this years carols to all of you up there. A reminder that Padstow in Cornwall starts its carols on Sunday 2nd December, 7.30 at the Market Square.

Indeed. What a wonderful bunch of singers.

The Sheffield Council have deemed that carol singing is deemed part of Christmas - thus part of a religious service and thus not a regulated entertainment in the meaning of the Licensing Act.

Sam Smiths have deemed the pub is allowed music on the basis it is a long standing tradition there.

Thank you, tijuanatime, for that link.
I'm glad to see that the Traveller's Rest at Oughtibridge is back on the public list again.
Hope to join in carols at the Royal soon.

I have to confess that I am still reeling from listening to the singing of the Kilmore Quay carols from last year; I have never heard such wonderful singing before from men who, as Ian Russell quoted Tom Munnelly, "not only can sing the black notes between the white notes on the octave, but all the notes in between."

Thanks for posting that Pat hasben fast off the mark.

I am looking forward to it already. Dungworth, Sunday - here I come.

Can I ask people to take note of this bit in many places there are not many seats, and these are often saved for more elderly regular singers; sensitivity here will help.

Please be sensitive when you see me and give up your seat. :-)

34 years of singing.

Dave
