Pete might have heard of it at its previous venue, the Blind Beggar in Broughton Road.

I'll try and make the Waterloo Bar Edinburgh session next month... this Friday I'm playing elsewhere unfortunately.

I told Pete Budd in Edinburgh about the session - he'd never heard of it, but said he'd check it out on Friday. Pete's an excellent OT fiddler, so it should be good. Wish I wasn't in Yorkshire!
Cheers
Ray

Emma Chapman (fiddler), though from what she's told me, I think there are enough participants who know the material that she doesn't need to do much "running".

Meanwhile, there is an old-time session in Edinburgh at the Waterloo Bar (off the east end of Princes Street) on the third Friday of each month. So the next one's Friday 16th (I can't be at that one but hope to make it some time).

Sadly I think it never reached enough people to make it worth while. I'd love to be proved wrong though.

Hi to Downgirl and others,

Is this session still taking place? If so, I'd be very interested.

Hi Redsnapper

So sorry you can't make it, but please tell your friends to come along.

Will keep you posted here if there is to be a follow up. It really depends on the response to this first one.

Also hi to Scotus - long time no see! Very envious of your current location, amongst all that wonderful music. When are you back on these shores again? I enjoyed our sessions in the VI during the Milnathort festival.

Hi Jack

Sara's certain that Pete Budd is coming so if you can make contact with him you might manage a lift.

Jack - if you know an Edinburgh fiddler called Pete Budd, get in touch with him for a lift, I think he'll be there.

Hi Downgirl,

I enjoy old-timey and Appalachian music and am also in Perthshire. It unfortunately clashes with my regular Tuesday session so might be a bit difficult for me but I know a couple of other musicians who are particularly interested in old-timey so will let them know.

Best wishes

RS

From a Scot living in the middle of old-time music country (Big Stone Gap VA) I really wish I could be there! Wishing you and Sara the best of luck with the venture.

I'm also VERY familiar with the VA in Milnathort too!

Anyone interested in old-time music in Scotland?

We are trying to get an old-time music session going as the old-time scene here seems pretty quiet - even non-existent- at present. There are, however, lots of people in Scotland who do enjoy listening to Appalachian and old-time music..

So ......
Sara Grey and I have taken the bull by the horns and are inviting all old- time players ( fiddles, banjos, mandolins etc) and singers who would like to get together and share some tunes and songs to a session.

The date: Tuesday 4th December.

The venue: "The Village Inn " in Milnathort, Kinross-shire - just off the M90 motorway between Perth and Edinburgh. The Inn is in Westerloan in the middle of the village.

Time: from 8pm onwards.

If you enjoy playing or singing old-time, we'd love to see you there. Who knows - it might even become a semi-regular occurrence!
