Here's an open house and matching bar, courtesy of Bert's Flexible Friend to all those who are presently stuffing themselves or the turkey.

So all you Yanks and Canucks, pull up an easy chair, undo those waistband buttons and relax with some friends and good music, whilst we in the UK get busy with mixing up the Christmas pudding (stir-up Sunday this week, folks!), celebrating this weekends' full moon - the penultimate one of the year and generally preparing for Advent.

Soon we'll be getting the Advent calendar out of the loft, sticking the windows back on with sticky tape, digging out the spray-on snow, scouring the shops for a L54 two pin push-in bulb for the tangled mess of lights and wondering why we bother.

Until then, there's pumpkin pie for everyone, mulled wine and beer for those who partake, apple and mango tea for those who don't and a tap in the corner for the boring old farts.

Have a happy Thanksgiving folks, remember to give thanks for the bad stuff too, for without that, we wouldn't appreciate the good things so much.

LTS

It is only noon time here so the turkey stuffing has yet to begin. Mine is postponed until Saturday so I had a late breakfast and would love a cup of tea - oolong please - for now.

Oolong:~ never quite sure if that was a tea or those blue furry people in Star Trek.

But whatever gets you going, and whilst you're still speaking to me....!

I miss the jello pits, but I'm so glad the recliners I installed still remain.

Leadfingers has brought a pub dog, and the pub cats will have to yield me the chair.

We planned NOT to cook today, but treat ourselves to a buffet in town, in our dressup clothes. LOL, we've made more kitchen mess today that if we HAD planned to cook the meal: several lots of meat that accidentally thawed, cooked this past week and wrapped/divided today for the freezer; Hardi made TWO pies last night, plus there was the donated fresh turkey the beneficiary never picked up. (We prefer to receive and distribute them frozen, but there are always more donated than Hardi can give away in time.) Well, we had to cook it, didn't we? Had to make the gravy to pack up with the frozen, cooked white meat?

So we'll head out to the buffet soon, but honestly, I'm not sure I can eat another bite.

So make mine an aperitif while I put my aching feet up!

~Susan

Well, the jello pits have a foot or so of leaves in the bottom...but is it too early in the day for a fire and marshmallows? Maybe later - after we all come back from our dinners out. Anyone know how to do a really good mulled cider?

Both JudyB and I are recovering from nasty colds we were blessed with on our flight home from Oz and decided to postpone Thanksgiving until Saturday. Mother is planning a feast of lobsters that a fisherman plans to drop off as a gift for her 90th birthday. I'm not sure how she's planning to stuff them but she better not remove any of the lobster meat.

I'd like a rusty nail for further medication and meditation.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

I'd like a really good red wine, please.

Over ice.

With root beer.

Shaken, not stirred.

Thank you.

Thanksgiving with Winona. What a grand idea. I love the sound of it. Pass the Zinfandel, but hold the anchovies.

I'll also have a pint of the Summer Lightning, the best pint I had of the many I tried on my UK trip last summer, made even better by the company of Hils & Richard and Leadfingers while drinking it. I'll never find any over here in Maryland, so I'll have some drink the health of all my friends within the Tavern and buy a round of it for the en-Lightningment of all who have never tasted it.

Can anyone else smell burning?

I guess it's time to get the cranberries ready. Don't bother making jelly out of them, I'll take mine juiced and with white rum!

LTS - who is disturbed at feeling the need for hard liquor at breakfast time... but that's working in an office for you!

I obviously had a premonition this morning.. it's been a good day to bury any news not pertaining to Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs!

What sort of customs does her majesty have? Does she paint herself with woad and run around going "Wooga wooga"? And does this ritual increase her revenue?

I believe she decks herself out in fancy dress a couple of times a year and reads a pantomime from a script that someone else writes for her. I've never yet heard her shout 'wooga wooga' but what she and Philip get up to in their spare time is none of our business!

Aah divvent think 'Wooga-Wooga' is summat either Her Maj or Phil The Greek would yell. Her bein' of Germanic extraction and and him bein' of Hellenic insertion.

They'd prob'ly be mair likely to shout summat like 'Hande Hoch' or 'You want chilli sauce onnit?'

'Wooga-Wooga' sounds more colonial - Mebbe Oz or USA

Doesn't yell 'wooga wooga' then... Hmm... sounds like she's so posh she employs someone to fart for her!
