Ake, are you saying that Gays are more promiscuous than Heteros?

Yeah, I guess I'm getting a little pissed off, at what is going on....being as the 'level headedness' I seemed to have during the campaign, and the reasons I gave about the elections, are being replaced with watching about everything I said, then, is coming true, before our eyes...and having to deal with some really moronic posts, that blindly, with much denial, go onto keep thinking this guy is some sort of messianic pop icon! I am watching my country, sadly, disintegrate in front of my eyes! Sorry if I seem 'upset'.
Regards, GfS

Guest from Sanity, I'm getting a little concerned about you - seriously. Back during the build-up to the US election, your posts, although contrarian, seemed rational, and not overly emotional. Lately though, your posts have a wild tone and are teetering on the borderline of incoherence - at times slipping over. What's going on?

Amos the ones who are bent out of shape in my opinion, are those who who refuse to admit that the practice of homosexuality is a serious health risk.

Why is it that in every country the first aids diagnoses have been among the homosexual community, before transfering to heterosexuals?
Why no aids transmission between lesbians?
Seems to me that the male homosexual act allied to the promiscuous lifestyle conducted by many homosexuals could be the trigger for the disease. Normal penetrative hetero-sex is very unlikely to cause internal injury to a woman, but penetrative sex between two men is very likely to, as the anus is not designed to tolerate sexual intercourse or childbirth.

The figures are easily obtainable on the web and if these figures don't give you or others here pause for thought then you are certainly "bent out of shape"

I'm trying to match my caricature of an outlaw with my caricature of a gay man and I've come up with a guy in leather chaps with a moustache and a peaked cap ...

... I'm not sure about the "outlaw" tag in relation to homosexuals - a load of leather posers squabbling over a vespa just doesn't seem to sit comfortably beside jesse james and ned kelly ... and I can't say that jesse james and ned kelly look too comfortable either ...

As for snuff ... take care ... it's nothing to sneeze at ....

We don't quite agree there akenaton. I see smoking in pubs as an intrusion on the rights of other pub users, in the same way as I see "cottaging" as an intrusion on the rights of people wishing to use the loos for the purpose for which they were installed. A ban on such activities is a reasonable restriction of the liberties of some people in defence of the liberties of other people.

But I can envisage a future in which further restrictions on smokers, and even attempts at prohibition - which would be a curtailment opf human rights - could give smoking the kind of outlaw lifestyle image that gay sex and dope smoking has has imposed on it. Which probably serves to promote the activities involved.

In contrast - when did you last hear anyone waxing apoplectic about the evils of snuff-taking? And how many times in the p[ast month have you seen anyeone taking snuff

well, as usual,I find myself in agreement with Mcgrath.(sorry Kev)
The smoking analogy is persuasive, the difference being, that although both types of behaviour have been proved to be extremely damaging to personal and public health, only smokers have their "human rights" curtailed.

Sometimes I think posters open old threads, post new information, or skewed information to support whichever view they hold.
Certainly they never post anything new which is at variance with their opinions.

I suppose it's being a "respectable" troll really.

Don't get me started!! This issue is truly nonsense! All the proof in the world means nothing to those buffoons, who have their minds made up...no matter how asinine, their rap! Get politics out of our personal lives!....Sorry all you, who think the present administration, and the 'nanny state' control that is encroaching on us all, forcing their bullshit agendas, running us all broke..To share and 're-distribute the wealth'...I mean poverty, has a lot of you siding with the ridiculous. With absolutely no scientific proof, you cut and paste some already disproved 'study'(like global warming, and other issues)..and think you are getting somewhere, as to change reality.
..And if you think that being a homosexual, doesn't cloud your perceptions, just ask, Barney Frank,..and listen to all his completely immature assessments, and 'remedies' of the current financial mess we're in! To avoid misunderstandings like that, it's probably a better idea to start a new thread, and if it seems appropriate, to put a link to the earlier thread in the opening post.
.............................

It seems to me there are a lot of analogies between being gay and being a smoker. Some people are, some people aren't, maybe its a matter of choice, maybe its a matter of DNA, either way it's their business, and nobody's got any right to hassle them for it.

Persecution just gives this kind of variance an artificial importance, as if whether someone is gay (or, increasingly, is a smoker) is the most important defining thing about them, rather than just being one among a myriad ways in which people vary in the way they behave.

Amos, I think the nature of my comment wasn't clear. My point is that it is pretty damn silly, with all that is going on in the world, for people to sit and give any credence whatever to any fool that wants to debate such an issue. What the hell difference does, or should it, make whom someone sleeps with? Debating the why's of someones natural state is just so damn idiotic. We ought simply be getting rid of the barriers for folks to live in happy relationships.

The more I try to figure out how to say what's on my mind, the more confused it sounds......

Sometimes I wonder about the wisdom of refreshing an old thread to post new information or opinions. Sure, it's supposed to conserve bandwidth, but some folks seem to lack the ability to look at the original date, realize it's a refreshed thread, and scroll down to the new stuff. Several people seem to have gotten all het up over this old thread when the only thing in it that's pertinent is Amos' post about the UN resolution decriminalizing homosexuality. The rest of it's old shit and is best left unstirred.

Big Phil's troll, back in 2007, is not the point. The point was that an important change in US policy has occurred. And Mick, although the hardware issues are more important, agreed, nevertheless, yes, it should be taken seriously, because it means a kind of tolerance has been advanced in the world.

If people were being burned in Persia for their color rather than their sexual orientation, I daresay it would seem pretty important, not so?

Wed Mar 18, 2009 2:21pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States, in a reversal of Bush administration policy, has decided to sign on to a U.N. declaration that calls for the decriminalization of homosexuality, the State Department said on Wednesday.

State Department spokesman Robert Wood said the Obama administration, which took office eight weeks ago, would now join 66 other U.N. member states who supported a U.N. statement in December that condemned human rights violations based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

"The United States is an outspoken defender of human rights and critic of human rights abuses around the world," Wood told reporters.

"As such, we join with other supporters of this statement, and we will continue to remind countries of the importance of respecting the human rights of all people in all appropriate international fora."

Gay rights groups immediately welcomed the move.

"The administration's leadership on this issue will be a powerful rebuke of an earlier Bush administration position that sought to deny the universal application of human rights protections to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals," said Mark Bromley, who chairs the Council for Global Equality.

The U.N. General Assembly had been split over the issue of gay rights, with many Muslim countries refusing to sign on to the statement because of opposition to international attempts to legalize homosexuality.

A rival statement read out by Syria at the time gathered about 60 signatures from the 192-nation assembly.

The United States was the only western state not to sign on to the gay rights document. All European Union member states endorsed it, as did Canada, Australia and Japan.

'NO LEGAL OBLIGATIONS'

In a move that angered U.S. gay rights groups, the Bush administration argued that the broad framing of the language in the statement created conflict with U.S. laws.

The rationale was that favoring gay rights in a U.N. document might be interpreted as an attempt by the U.S. federal government to override individual states' rights on issues like gay marriage.

Pressed on this issue, Wood said a "careful" interagency review by the Obama administration found that signing on to the U.N. document "commits us to no legal obligations."

A rationale voice is a joy to behold.

I figure it'll work out like left-handedness, with only about 10% strongly in the minority, a whole bunch with tendencies in various directions, and slightly under half strongly straight.
I also think, with all the differences showing up in people's MRIs and other data, that studies should be split gynophile/androphile rather than male/female for biology, biochemistry, physiology etc...
How about opinions on that?
