"While cars were set ablaze for a third night Tuesday, officials said the violence was less intense than the two previous nights.

Some 20 police officers were lightly injured, down from more than 80 the night before, said Patrice Ribeiro of the Synergie police union.

Some 138 cars were burned around France overnight Tuesday, which Ribeiro called almost "normal." Police say as many as 100 cars are burned every night in scattered incidents around the country."

A few years ago I travelled overnight by coach down from Calais to the South of France. We must have passed three or four blazing cars in the course of the ten hours or whatever it took.

I have still never seen a car in the UK on fire like that - i.e deliberately torched.

I find it interesting that they fail to identify the backgrounds or religions of these so-called "youths". They will lose their country before using the "M" word, won't they? Even when they have photographs of angry "youths" holding signs that say "Behead those that insult Islam".

Don't those photographs kind of tell you who they are, and what they plan to do?

France has a long and honourable tradition of going to the barricades as a first resort. It is why Paris (France, not Texas or Hilton) has wide boulevards, so that they are harder to barricade!

Traffic control in France? I've driven round the Arc de Triomphe in a UK reg car, and believe you me I would rather have a spin round the Wall of Death on a defective motorbike. Took me about 10 minutes before any frenchie would let me get off the roundabout. The trick is to not use your mirrors, not indicate and just 'go for it'. Unfortunately when you're driving an undented, newish car it takes a lot of nerve to drive like the French! I'll take the Eurostar next time!
