I'm pretty familiar with "Dink's Song." Found in Lomax's Folk Song U.S.A.

Umm . . . I'm afraid Mr. Trad didn't have a whole lot to do with Mr. Burton's rendition.

Verrrry nice, is my comment.

His voice is fine, fine, and he uses that high upper range very well.
As a middle-continent USer, I had some trouble understanding a few words, here and there.

In the three pieces that it sounds as if he wrote, I note that he doesn't really like to end a song at the tonic, though.

"Ditto" above is I...looks like an episode of cross-posting. If you don't like "Dink's Song", you'll have to blame that nice Mr. Trad (clearly labelled as the song's author)...

...in any case, if you've listened and loathed, bear in mind it all contributes towards Gene's total profile views; and as such he's still had the last laugh, ha ha.

BTW, I'd imagine Gene is well aware that Nick Drake, Jake Thackray et al shuffled off their mortal coils long before he ever picked up a guitar. My guess is his prominent featuring of those artists is intended to signal where he's coming from musiclly rather than to imply he enjoys a close personal relationship with them...

(...then again, I'm told the man has a complex and not entirely harmonious relationship with the truth...ho hum indeed!)

Hey, I just checked out Gene's site again and I notice his profile views have leapt by scores since I started this thread a couple of hours ago; so thank y'all for taking my advice and listening...I hope you liked what you heard. I may even try to dig out his contact details and fess up on my unauthorised promotional activities...I reckon he'd be chuffed!

It would be so nice if Myspace would work first time. I can't get teh music up at tehmoment, but I notice he has a lot of dead alleged friends and alleged influences.
