Subject: RE: A Present to Mudcat and Max From: Max Date: 10 Dec 07 - 10:12 AM I've already gotten $400 via paypal. That'll just about do it. My thoughts are that 1TB is sufficient, and I need it to have a Firewire 400/800 connection to the server. Everything else is too slow. I am seeing some with USB, Firewire and Firewire 800 which would be great for all kinds of uses. Thanks to everyone who contributed, and thanks Repaire for the idea. |
Subject: RE: A Present to Mudcat and Max From: maeve Date: 10 Dec 07 - 10:01 AM Good. Let's do it up right. I'll send what I can. maeve |

Subject: RE: A Present to Mudcat and Max From: maeve Date: 10 Dec 07 - 06:35 AM The 1.5 makes sense to me, as long as we're doing this. Rapaire, Max, what do you think? maeve |

Subject: RE: A Present to Mudcat and Max From: Stilly River Sage Date: 10 Dec 07 - 01:04 AM Depending on where you choose to purchase the equipment, you can sometimes get a generous discount by simply linking to the site through an academic institution. It may be that my computer has a cookie that lets me though, but you might want to try this link (http://www.uta.edu/oit/computerstore/cpu_systems.html to see if it lets you through for a discount. I'll have to check the finances at the end of the month before committing to this one. I put a new roof on the house three weeks ago. That left my pocketbook in a real twist. :-/ SRS |

Subject: RE: A Present to Mudcat and Max From: artbrooks Date: 10 Dec 07 - 12:05 AM You have to have a personal PayPal account to send via them. They verify that your bank account is real...basically by making a 5 cent deposit and withdrawal. Then, when you do a PayPal payment, they take the money directly from your account - essentially like using a debit card. Start here - but I'm not sure about people in Oz and other outlandish such places. |

Subject: RE: A Present to Mudcat and Max From: catspaw49 Date: 09 Dec 07 - 09:37 PM Well, I just sent $25. by PayPal. Fergie sent a bit over that in Euro so at least $50 at Mudcat Central now. Rap and Charley are in for a hundred each, but ya' know if only 12 of us went for 25 each we'd be there........Or let's give it a few days and then Rap and Charlie can make up whatever. I betcha' we can get more than we need and have a bonus left over for the Spiegel kid to use for something else! Spaw |

Subject: RE: A Present to Mudcat and Max From: Bill D Date: 09 Dec 07 - 08:28 PM That was 1.5TB... this one is just 1 TB. |
Subject: RE: A Present to Mudcat and Max From: Bill D Date: 09 Dec 07 - 08:27 PM How fancy are we thinking? This shouldn't be too hard or take too big a bite from any one person if this set is a good example. Storage is a lot cheaper than it was just a year ago. Are there better ones? (I have 2 smaller Iomega external drives..) I'll go in for $10-15. I'll watch this and see what the verdict is. |
Subject: RE: A Present to Mudcat and Max From: gnu Date: 09 Dec 07 - 07:46 PM Sounds good, but I'll have to wait for month end to do the arithmetic. |
