I'm glad you like the posts about the cats. I'm in the throes of unpacking vast numbers of boxes, having just moved house, and I've just left Mylo in the last kitchen box as he didn't want to leave it.

"Summerlands" is awaiting the next chance to be included in a new album. I started the thinking/recording process last summer and now need some time to go back into the studio and record a handful of new songs. The plan for the new album is to use some very old recordings (from when I was a lot younger) and some new ones. But "Summerlands" is about saying goodbye to a loved companion animal, and the only trouble is I find it hard to sing it without tears.

As to the website - we had a bit of trouble with the hosting recently, so the difficulty on the public computer might be because of that. My husband has plans to entirely re-do the website, but that again has to wait until he can sort out his desk and computer in the new house (computer currently still boxed up).

But thank you for the interest!

Anne

I would like to thank Anne Lister for her affectionate posts about the cats who have made their homes with her, on Mudcat cat threads.

And I would like to ask:
More, please about that song Summerlands?
You mentioned it in one post.

The public computer I am on, for some weird reason, blocks Anne Lister's website when I try to go there.

Mrrzy, I haven't read that particular book but oddly enough I do have a Red Riding Hood song (not especially from the wolf's point of view, but wondering about some pertinent issues)and a Sleeping Beauty song from the point of view of the 13th godmother. There's also a generalised song about the Disneyfication of fairy tales, and of course "How to Find True Love" on the album you have, which is based on the trad Scottish story of Molly Whuppie ...that's before you get me on to Greek myths and tales of King Arthur!

I can see we'll just have to get together some time to swap stories and songs!

Tabster, have you read The Witch's Boy? Your "Cinders" reminds me of some of the stories you get in that book, including the wolves' side of Little Red Riding Hood, and the lament of Sleeping Beauty for her enchanted dreams... beautiful. I'd love to hear you sing those... (I promise not to be the swooning fan, I really do!)

I'd LOVE to come back to Old Songs .... just need to be booked!

And as to the brother in the Small Black Cat, he cried (I think) because he realised how much more there was to the world, the possibilities and his life than he'd suspected. There's something about unconditional love (and a fish) from a small furry animal, isn't there? I don't think his brothers ate any of it, but it probably depends on how big the salmon was.

I should probably have posted this link before ... more info than on MySpace ...

Anne/Tabster, when you write that "the youngest brother cried" in The Small Black Cat, could you mean the youngest brother thrived? Did the others even eat the fish?

I'm going to be at the York folk club (Black Swan) on April 10th, if that's any good to you, Willa ...and I'd love to come back to Cottingham if only someone would book me! It's a bit of a long drive otherwise. But thanks for the kind remarks - much appreciated on a cold day!

No, Diane, I'm still breathing ... just as well I learnt how to swim, eh? And the Aegean has a lot of salt to aid buoyancy....

I'm mightily relieved to find out that Anne Lister has not flown too close to the sun, melted her wings and tumbled into the Aegean.
As someone remarked yesterday about Martin Simpson, I do wish people wouldn't start threads with just a name.
You open them fearing an obit.
