Subject: RE: Joseph Spence - S.C. is Coming to Town From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 18 Dec 07 - 09:38 AM I have a couple of records of Jospeh Spence, one of which contains the song Conch Ain't Got No Bone. Long ago I thought to myself, this sounds like a song of great sexual imagery and no doubt one that I should learn. Joseph sang it of course in his own inimitable and therefore totally unintelligble way, leaving me up a creek without a conch (which is doubtless another sexual metaphor). Undaunted, I later came across a Ry Cooder record with the song on in the high expectation of getting the words. Alas it was not to be - he did only an instrumentall version. I remain conchless (and possible unconchionable!). Nice to hear this seasonal song though. Mick |
