I think of it in the sense that: I can teach you to fly (give you your freedom), but then once you have that freedom will you come back to me? Don't know for sure what the composer wrote. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Light in the Window (Greg Trooper) From: GUEST,Peter Vogel Date: 28 Jun 10 - 05:38 PM I believe the lyrics as done by Salamander Crossing are not, "I can teach you to fly," but "I can't teach you to fly." This makes better sense in the context. I can't teach you to fly Darling one, darling one I can't teach you to fly darling one But if you cut away the strings And realize you have wings Will you fly back to me darling one? |

Subject: Lyr Add: LIGHT IN THE WINDOW (Greg Trooper) From: Barbara Shaw Date: 08 Jan 08 - 07:58 AM The Greg Trooper song "Light in the Window" was recorded by Salamander Crossing (Rani Arbo). Beautiful song. LIGHT IN THE WINDOW Greg Trooper There's a light in the window Darling one, darling one There's a light in the window, darling one It will shine on forever Through darkness and bad weather To light your way home darling one. There's a cool breeze blowing Through my heart, through my heart There's a cool breeze blowing through my heart When leaves are falling gently through the yard Like the last time I held you in my arms. (Chorus) No one ever knows what they'll find down the road My love travels with you no matter where you go There's a light in the window that will always shine on To light your way home darling one. I can teach you to fly Darling one, darling one I can teach you to fly darling one But if you cut away the strings And realize you have wings Will you fly back to me darling one? |
Subject: Lyr Add: JUST COMING OF AGE (Collins, Dunn) From: oldhippie Date: 08 Jan 08 - 07:44 AM "JUST COMING OF AGE" by Burton Collins and Don Dunn Recorded by Bobby Ross There's a light in a window out on Route 20 And it's been burning brightly since '71 The day that a telegram came from the Army With regrets to inform them of their youngest son In the line of duty, enemy fire, are a few of the words On that yellowing page And it sits in a drawer by a box with a medal Near a picture of a young man Just Coming Of Age Near a picture of a young man Just Coming Of Age There's a woman with a family who lives in St. Louis She's been a good wife and she couldn't complain But sometimes she wonders how things might be different If she had married her old high school flame She loves her children, two girls and a boy And her husband's a good man, but it's just not the same As the day that her sweetheart went away for his country A picture of a young man Just Coming Of Age The picture of a young man Just Coming Of Age There's a stone by a tree somewhere in Virginia That marks the place where the young man now lies With all of his hopes, his dreams and his promise Silenced forever beneath clear blue skies And the stone looks the same as the one right beside it And the thousands of others like lines on a page Each one was a friend, a sister or brother A son or daughter Just Coming Of Age The picture of someone Just Coming Of Age There's a light in a window out on Route 20 And it's been burning brightly since '71 |
