I imagimed what would have happened if Jose had been an all out Terrorist to the bone. The neo Feds (Cheney) would have not merely revolked Habeous Corpus and start torture camps worldwide but they would use Jose as the reason why your neighbors and family need special screening and detention.

We dodged a bullet, the bullet of a purge of US citizens going far beyond the Japanese "internment camps".

In the old days in ancient Rome, it is my understanding no slave could be counted as a reliable witness unless they had been tortured into giving testimony! Said testimony was only valid if it was a result of torture.
