Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Somebody knows when your heart aches From: katlaughing Date: 24 Jan 08 - 10:04 PM Thank you, Jim! How neat! Dani, that is really wonderful. I am sure someone, here, will have a tune for you faster than I could get one from the elderly lady I know of. The gal who comes over to do my floors every other week also does cleaning for "Margaret." Margaret gave her a copy of her memoirs and she passed them on to me. I haven't actually met Margaret, yet, but when I do, I plan to let her know about all of the songs and folks, here. She has a 90th birthday coming up next month. I will ask her for the tune a soon as Iget to meet her. At the end of her book, she says she misses the gardening and music the most, from her childhood. I told my house cleaner that I'd be happy to go over and share music with her if she's interested. She apparently is quite sharp and remembers a lot. Ain't life sweet? I love the conenctions.:-) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Somebody knows when your heart aches From: GUEST,Dani Date: 24 Jan 08 - 09:10 PM Thank you so much for this! I just started working in a place where people care for (mostly) folks with Alzheimer's, and it's wonderful to see the impact music has (and how nice for me that I get to hear such good stuff all the time!) Anyone know about a tune? It seems simple enough... Dani |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Somebody knows when your heart aches From: Jim Dixon Date: 24 Jan 08 - 08:57 PM The lyrics posted by Kevin appear to be identical (right down to the punctuation) to the ones found in this curious book called The Phono-bretto (Phonograph Libretto): The Indispensible Companion of the Phonograph, and Faithful Interpreter of About Seven Hundred Sung and Spoken Phonograph Selections, by The Phono-Bretto Company, Inc., New York, 1919, page 259. The song is identified as SOMEBODY CARES, by Homer A. Rodeheaver, Copyright 1910. The recording is identified as Victor Record 17989. |

Subject: Lyr Add: SOMEBODY CARES (Homer A. Rodeheaver) From: GUEST,Kevin Date: 23 Jan 08 - 04:01 PM Here are the lyrics. Somebody Cares (songwriter??) Somebody knows when your heart aches, And ev'rything seems to go wrong; Somebody knows when the shadows Need chasing away with a song; Somebody knows when you're lonely, Tired, discouraged and blue; Somebody wants you to know Him, And know that He dearly loves you. Somebody cares when you're tempted, And your mind grows dizzy and dim; Somebody cares when you're weakest, And farthest away from Him; Somebody grieves when you're fallen, You are not lost from His sight; Somebody waits for your coming, And He'll drive the gloom from your night. Somebody loves you when weary; Somebody loves you when strong; Always is waiting to help you, He watches you— one of the throng Needing His friendship so holy, Needing His watchcare so true; His name? We call His Name Jesus; He loves ev'ryone, He loves you. |
Subject: Lyr Req: Somebody knows when your heart aches From: katlaughing Date: 23 Jan 08 - 03:32 PM This was referenced in the memoirs of an elderly woman in Colorado. She said it went like this, what she remembers: Somebody knows when your heart aches And, everything seems to go wrong... It's possible it was a gospel song as she grew up singing a lot of them. I didn't find anything in a SuperSearch. Thanks, kat |
