A lot of us have been waiting to hear a report from you, Art, since you went up north to be mayonnaised. Please tell us (privately, if you prefer) what you learned and how you are doing. Catspaw ain't the only one we love 'round here, y'know.

Good thinking, Sandy. I was going to start one, but you beat me to it! So, Art, hope the "tune up" went okay and that you are home getting ready to take up the truly unique "thieme" that is yours, here at the Mudcat!

Thanks for starting this Sandy, I was wondering as well, as its been a week, and I've been listening to Red Iron Ore, That's the Ticket, and a bunch of other Art material for the past week. Thoughts are with you Art and I hope that all is well.

Just as soon's the crew, that is, Paw, Cletus and the rest of the Regs rescue Catspaw we might wanna send 'em on over to that there Mayonaise factory and fetch up what information they can on Art. I would call it an intelligence gathering mission, but with the likes of them ANY reference to "intelligence" would be an oxymoron. If Art don't make hisself heered from by the middle of the next week, I reckon we's just gonna hafta fetch after him.

He is at home, I spoke with his Mizzus yesterday. I got so busy that I forgot to call the lad in Minnesota, so I called his home to grovel and beg him not to lacerate me with that laser wit of his. He was out for the day, so I will have to call back. But he is back and apparently OK.

Hey folks,

I'm here again. All went fine at Mayo---just got medications explained better etc. etc. Meds help with some o' the symptoms. One doc gave me 6 months to live. I told hin, "But doc, I can't pay you!" So he gave me another 6 months!! ***RIMSHOT***. :-)

Thanks for your concern.

Our son, Chris was with me the entire week. (He drove me.) Went to see __LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL__. Lemme tell ya, there's no better film for a father & son to go see together. What a connection!!!

Try it; you'll like it.

Love to y'all,

Art

Welcome home, lad! Glad to hear that all went as well as could be expected. I was hoping the trip to the clinic was routine follow-up, not in response to any worsening symptoms. We're relieved, and happy to hear from your again. We've missed you.

Talked with Jerry Epstein today at Indian Neck. He told me the doctors have now decided that Tony Barrand's "MS" (which appeared to be in remission for so long) is not MS after all, but the symptoms he suffers are the result of "heavy metal poisoning" (lead and mercury, not music).

This probably should have been a personal message. Sorry if I've violated the BS toleration level. Actually, I'm not really sorry at all.

Sandy

No need to be sorry, Snady...But good news on Mr. Barrands heavy metal poisoning, luckily it's from lead and mercury type of heavy metal, that other variety, (music) can have far more disastrous results they tell me! Mr. Thieme, good to see you back in action!

Note to Paw, Cletus and company...Do not proceed with new search, subject has been located. Go back under cover, this time using the tiple band as a disguise. To ensure TOP SECRECY, print this message out, wad it up and eat it!

Welcome back, Art. So glad to hear Chris was with you. That's wonderful. Thanks for the tip on the movie; will have to check it out.

So how much heavy metal have you been exposed to over the years? *smile* Any chance?

Take care and oh, my Dad says you sure were a mean pickin' son of a gun! He just got the tape I sent him last week and is really enjoying it, esp. Blue Mtn., since he's surrounded by "Mormon gals". NOI, everybody!

Just in case you missed the thread: he's looking for words to Uncle Bob's Prayer, which sued to be on the back cover of Whiz Bang. Have you ever heard of it? Haven't had any luck so far. (There, Sandy, does that help balance out the BS? I don't care, either!!!)

Bye,

Guys, You've hit a raw spot for old Art.

Sandy, I believe that Jerry is wrong about his info. I also believe T.B. (as much as I love him) has tried every kookie alternative treatment that's come down the pike--some extremely expensive.

My thought is that if I ate a turd pizza, and at that exact moment I had a remission, my wishful thinking and denial would put me on TV talk shows declaring LOUDLY that TURD PIZZA CURES MS. Then other desperate folks would run out and save stuff from the catbox to make pizza with.

My tongue is NOT in my cheek as I say this. My personal experience has taught me these sadly hard lessons. I have nothing but respect for Tony, but denial is not only a river in Egypt.

Thanks for all the good wishes.

Art

Kat(& all), It's an honor to have your dad say I was an OK picker. I sure am enjoying his renditions of some REAL cowboy songs. As I said in my private note, it was like finding a grand Library of Congress recording that, somehow, I'd overlooked. Thanks for sending it to me. And it was great hearing you on that tape too.

Sorry, but I've not heard that song your dad's looking for.
Another fine singer of cowboy and old-timey songs is Bob Bovee---along with the wonderful Gail Heil. Chris & I had a sumptious bar-b-q with them and Dick Kimmel & others at their farm in Minnesota while I was at Mayo.Sure was fine after-dinner music that night.

It was bitter-sweet to be hearin' the music "on the road" again. I did stop in Madison and bought a slew of CDs as well as a "nut raiser" and a "steel" to convert my guitar one more time---it'll be Dobro-like now. Maybe I can coax some decent sounds out of her that way. Hell, I'd try a vibrator if it did the trick.

Thanks to Rick Fielding for the tuning info he sent me for Dobro style. Say, Rick, did you send that CD again? It never got here...

Please excuse my spewings on some o' the alternative MS cures out there. I wasn't home from Mayo for 15 minutes before I had a phone call from a total stranger with the "magic cure"---packets of stuff to drink (after paying big bucks for it--of course). Many do mean well, I know--and I appreciate the thoughtfulness of so very many good people. I've looked into bee venom stings and having my silver fillings removed and being oxygenated in a high-pressure chamber and quitting Nutra Sweet and wheat and glutin and milk products. All that's left that I can eat, it seems, is TWINKIES! So, if we are what we eat, why am I not tall & thin like a Twinkie? Tell me that, huh?

Oh, no!!! Look out, he's going for the "Twinkie Defense"!

Thanks, Art, re' dad. I'll pass your words on to him. He turned 82 this last Saturday. He really is enjoying your tape, as am I.

No prob. about the alternative stuff; after all, you're the one directly involved!

Must've been an incredibly wonderful evening at the farm.

That's right, Art. Tony was doing the Evening Primrose, etc., and has now had all his fillings exchanged for the latest metallic formula, according to Jerry's report. The amazing thing, to me, is how long Tony continued to do clog dance and Morris while utilizing every alternative medicine approach. But, remember, he also went with what the regular doctors were advising during it all. He was determined to touch all the bases.

Jayzus Art! That's two of 'em. Something's fishy here. Last one got sent out about 2 weeks ago. I had the same problem about a year ago....lemme check something tomorrow. Worst part is you miss the (half) witty letter that goes along with it! I forgot if I gave you the tuning that can be used for major AND minor songs. D,A,D,D,A,D. (from bass) It seems weird but it really works. The Shubb people have put out a new and really good dobro capo that goes on easily and sounds quite good. It's 50 bucks..but you can't take it with you! Welcome back, and don't forget to read the "No More BS" Thread.

Rick, that tuning works just as well from treble as from bass.

And Art, for the past couple of months I've been waking up to "The Older I Get..." on my cd alarm clock. I change the starting place from time to time (currently it's on "Betty and Dupree," but I've spent weeks waking up to various of your fine clawhammer banjo tunes). Best wishes, buddy. --seed

Welcome back Art. Don't forget the book you were going to write.

I doubt whether cat turd pizzas would work. I think it would need to be from a larger, herbivorous animal.

Art, as concerns the Twinkies and things to eat, my wife has a magnet on the refrigerator that says, "If we are what we eat then I'm either fast, cheap, or easy!"...Also please furnish a bit more info on the CD to which Seed makes reference. I would like to see about getting a copy since my banjo playing(?) is mainly based on clawhammer.

Folk-Legacy carries Art's CD, too! But I thought folks could order it direct from you, Art, letting you pocket the whole profit to help pay for your pizza cravings. (As for the pizza: "Good though.") My best to Carol.

Where could I purchase the CD in question, "The Older I Get, The Better I Was", and profit Mudcat at the same time? I understand there are some outlets that credit the Mudcat a portion of each sale. Is Folk Legacy one of them. Art, Sandy, please help with the decision making process here!

Folk-Legacy has agreed to be, but we can only share the wealth with the CDs we, ourselves, produce. Waterbug may be going to do the same thing when Max finally gets it working. I still think Art ought to keep a supply right there in his new condo and get Chris to ship 'em out for him, if he has trouble getting to the post office. How 'bout that, Art? It's no sin to make a few bucks on the side. And, by the way, whatever happened to the Winfield CD that was around awhile back? I never got a copy of that one, and I'd like to have it, too.

Good people,

I'm not selling the CD from here. Andrew Calhoun and Waterbug Records is doing all of that and all of the distribution and I heartily thank them for that. My little electric cart can get me to the post office about twice a week. Chris lives 110 miles from here and has a full time job (thankfully) running a department for Dominican University near Chicago. Banjer, I do hope you find a few things on it you can like. I'm embarrassed posting this again after that other thread, but Waterbug orders are done from www.waterbug.com or at 1-800-466-0234

Thanks again,

Art

Sandy,

The __A.T.--Live At Winfield__ tape (it wasn't a CD) has been out o' stock for a few years now. I will make you a dub of it real quick.

It was great of Winfield (Bob Redford & all) and Cathy Fink to put that out to benefit us a while back. 'Tweren't perfect, but "The Great Turtle Drive" was much better on this than on that 1976 live LP. I do posess the rights to it & have a DAT somewhere.

Love to all the family,

Art

As Rog says, "he's got a voice you could listen to all day!" We listen to your tape A LOT and plan on getting your Older I Get CD when another payday rolls around.
