In doing some research, I ran across this short video of Tom Waits with Francis Ford Coppola, about Tom making the music for the movie, One from the heart. It's not very long, but Tom's comment a the beginning is pretty funny.

I didn't realize until two weeks ago that Tom, who spent a few early busking and coffee house years slumming about in San Diego and National City, had written the theme "Down in the Hole" for the gritty HBO series, "The Wire." Each season, a different artist or group has done their interpretation of it. Based on people who knew him back in the '60's, he comes by his street-wise approach honestly. He hung out on the streets, with a lot of down-and-outers.

There are some great You Tube clips of Tom. Check out the talk shows he is guest at. I think there is one from Australia. Hilarious.

T.W is in a recurring dream sequence (playing and acting like he's playing)in Roberto Benini's new film.. "Tiger in the Snow"... a beautiful flic...

Also Steve Earle did a version of 'Down in the Hole' on his latest cd "Washington Square Serenade"

I've never seen that film on DVD. I loved it when it came out. Whoever thought of putting Tom Waits and Crystal Gail together??
