Subject: SONG TITLES ONLY THREAD w/blue clicky thingies
From: katlaughing
Date: 11 May 99 - 08:03 PM

Let's see if this works; it's been suggested in another thread that we have a song title only thread, where we list titles of songs and a link to where the lyrics are in the threads or elsewhere, for easy spotting of same lyrics. So... hopefully this will be the only mesage in this thread, because it's just 'sposed to be for song titles and blue clicky thingies to where the lyrics are. My apologies, ahead of time, if this doesn't work. katlaughing

Example: AGINCOURT CAROL in katlaughing's post here

Fixed by a Joe clone

Instructions:

copy or write down the address,
Go to where you want to create the link
type in one arrow pointing to the left of the page, like this <
next to it, type in the letter "a" (no quotation marks)
move over one space and type in these letters without the quotation marks, "href"
then, flush against those letters, put in the "equals" sign
up against that, paste in or type in your link address, which should look like this, without quotation marks, "http://www.address"
flush against that, type in an arrow pointing to the right of the page, thus >
flush against that, type in left pointing arrow < forward slash / the letter "a" (no quotation marks) and right pointing arrow >
so, it goes, without quotation marks:
left facing arrow
the letter "a"
one space
the letters "href"
equal sign
address
right facing arrow
linking words that you want them to click onto, whatever you make up
left facing arrow
forward slash
the letter "a"
right facing arrow

I've just started a thread on how to create blue clicky thingies. You just cut and paste Joe's text of the line and then change the site address to the one you want.

That seemed to work, Kat. I used the FULL URL and enclosed it in parenthises, as it shows on the HTML thread, which I printed and use as a reference guide.

Hi,

I think the problem is that you need to use capital (upper case)letters so it ends up as A HREF at the start and A at the end..... (obviously I left out all of the <'s etc.. but Kat did a good job of explaining them at the top.

and I do put " " around the address.......

Hi Alison,
HTML is case insensitive, it does not matter whether you use capital letters or not for the HTML tags.

To put a link to a specific post in a thread, do the following:
- Look at the posts time and originator.
- Go to the top of the thread where the list of postings is
- Search for the post you want in this list
- Now if you move your mouse over it and click with your right mouse button on it (this is valid for Internet Explorer, I don't know whether it works on other browsers), you get a menu where you select "Properties".
- The dialog showing then has a field "Address", next to it is the URL, highlight it with your mouse (go to the end, press and hold mouse button down while moving mouse to the end of the address).
- Now press Ctrl and C key to copy this address.
- Type the <a href="">Click here</a> stuff
- put the cursor between the quotes and press Ctrl and V key to paste the address in

The important thing is to have the message number in the URL, i.e. the # character and the number behind it, it identifies the individual postings in the thread.

HTH,
Andreas

Thanks Andreas for the continued education, I had been wondering if it was not possible to select just one particular post out of a thread, I must try that at the earliest opportunity.

Andreas, thank you; I was successful in another thread with a mlink within the Mudcat, so don't know what I did wrong before. Hopefully Joe will be able to clean this one up pretty soon.

Now, everyone, in order to keep this a "pure" thread for song titles only, may I suggest that we post any more tech info on the 'creating blue clicky thingies" thread, instead? NOI; it's just the old thread creep is mucking up my good intentions!**BIG GRIN**

THANKS! ANd love the rainbows!
