Subject: RE: Francoise Hardy...any memories? From: GUEST,Nick Dow Date: 05 Mar 21 - 07:36 PM As a teenager in France, I preferred Sylvie Vartan (Johnny Halliday's girlfriend lucky sod) However musically I was much more into Nino Ferrer, drastically underrated Jazz singer, and his band when they were not clowning around were as tight as you could wish. He blew his brains out some years ago. A mixture of hating the music business and grief over the death of his father. That said I was looking for a Francoise Hardy look alike in 1967 while buzzing round Brittany on a Solex, (which I manged to fall off twice) I never landed on a French Wench! Serves me right! |

Subject: RE: Francoise Hardy...any memories? From: Gallus Moll Date: 06 Mar 21 - 12:07 PM in 1960-66 we had successive French Assistantes who taught us songs, played records of a good number of French pop singers of the time! Most of these have stuck with me, but particular favourite is Tout les garcons et les filles de mon age......! |
Subject: RE: Francoise Hardy...any memories? From: Rusty Dobro Date: 08 Mar 21 - 02:59 AM I once happened across a black limo parked in the darkness of a French supermarket car park. It moved forward into the light, and Sylvie Vartan emerged, said a few words, and cut the ceremonial ribbon to declare the store open. Then back into the car, and back into the darkness. I tend to remember moments like that........ |
Subject: RE: Francoise Hardy...any memories? From: JHW Date: 09 Mar 21 - 11:14 AM Darlington used to have a teacher training college. Francaises, peut-etre Assistantes there were Folk Club regulars and a few of us joined their party walking in the French Alps. |
Subject: RE: Francoise Hardy...any memories? From: GUEST,Nick Dow Date: 09 Mar 21 - 07:39 PM The darkness of a car park! You make her sound like a vampire! She wasn't was she? I used to fancy her (not as much as Elkie Brooks of course, but that's another thread) |
Subject: RE: Francoise Hardy...any memories? From: GUEST,Eric the viking Date: 11 Mar 21 - 06:35 AM Oh yes! I and some of my friends were extras in the film "Grand Prix" (1967) The British section was filmed at Brands Hatch in the week following the British Grand Prix. You can see an 18 year old Eric standing next to her as she pushes through the crowd. We had to do the take several times, each time she walked through the group of us. I remember she was plastered in thick makeup. |
Subject: RE: Francoise Hardy...any memories? From: Felipa Date: 10 Jul 23 - 05:51 PM I was only familiar with Hardy's first lp; I can still sing the chorus of "Tous les garçons et les filles" from memory. I see that she has done a lot more since in a half century of singing, and is also a published author of fiction and non-fiction books. She looks attractive in a 2012 photo included in the Wikipedia article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fran%C3%A7oise_Hardy I accessed today; even though she had had to give up singing due to effects of cancer. She has been in poor health in recent years. |
