Some one I know has been trying to find a poem she read years ago in college....and we have both combed the net and came out empty....so I am seeing if any of the smart people here know it.

It is about some daughters of justice or something and each of the daughters is afflicted with some defect resulting from the inadequacies of justice...

If anyone here knows what it is....well it's been driving me mad....and I imagine her as well.

Thank you.

I don't know but they might try contacting the brary of a national poetry society or, if there's no luck here, putting the question into a hard=copy (or online) column like The Guardian's Notes and Queries column

we are daughters of the soil.
look at us, feel our anger.

feel our pain
feel our sorrow,

eyes weeping blood, blood
flowing into rivers
staining the earth.
our nose breathes in the injustice
That hangs over the world
Like a cloud
Ears hearing abuse, so freely rendered.
Oh feel our anger

feel our pain
feel our sorrow.

YET!

What started as a whisper from our tongues
has become a shout
from every conscious mouth
still!
you rape us
still!
you abuse us
again again again ……..
shoot us! Shoot us! Death cannot kill the spirit,
our spirit, which will rise,
rise like a mist to smother the downpressor.
then fall like dew,
to nourish the land
that gave we birth.
we are daughters of the soil.
look at us.
see Africa.
feel our anger

pain
sorrow.

Written by a reggae poet Sister Netifa in her poem "Daughters of the Soil," according to the site of a conference where the poem was read.

I do wish when people so brilliantly track something down, they show their working, so we (by which I mean 'I') can learn how to do the dame er - same

Apologies autolycus try this link.

Knowing of the poem by Sister Letifa from a missionary magazine some time ago, I fed her name and the words daughters and injustice into "My Search" search engine and found the above link.
Best wishes, Mike.

Thanks Georgian.

i Knowing of the poem by Sister Letifa from a missionary magazine some time ago

That was the missing bit for me,the 'trick of it', the knowledge necessary to know what to google, or where to proceed.

I'll repeat use of libraries, reference section until they disappear.
