Just kidding.

Thanks Azizi, I have to admit that I really like the name as well. It was a natural fit. Were located in the Chateauguay Valley(hollow) and the spot is an apple orchard. Actually it might be a good idea to insert the McMillan web site where the festival is taking place. Let me try the blue clicky. www.mcmillanorchards.com/

Yo, Beer (and I note it's 'Beer' and not 'Scotch'), you have to put the http:// in front of it, as in "http://www.mcmillanorchards.com/". I fixed it for you. Marlboro Man's link (different site) works fine. It looks like a lovely site.

Thanks Jeri, I got to do the blue thing but couldn't figure out what went wrong. Your right about my name but I can't afford Scotch so Beer was the next best thing. anyway, give the festival some though and I will get you and your partner(if you have one)a place to stay which would help keep your cost down. No bartering required.

Bruce, I don't hear any 'bartering' on your part. Of course I don't see any safe way out of this, so maybe I better just give up now.

This thread has taken a strange turn from apples and music, but I have to venture an opinion here. The very cheap scotch you can get in New Hampshire is pure rotgut. The good stuff, Talisker, Lagavulin, LaPhroig, etc. costs about the same everywhere (big bucks) because it's taxed at source by the Brits. It's even expensive in Scotland.

But, yeah, apparently as well as beer & scotch & hamburgers, I'm looking forward to some music as well!

Lol Clipper. I never understood that line. Well let me think for a moment. Nah!, that can't be it.

Oh!, the question as to our band name was given by my wife as I was wondering what to call it because of some gig we had to do and they wanted to put up posters with a band name. So the good lady said: " You have four members playing string instruments and an accordion. Why not call yourselves Four Strings and a Squeeze box". End of story. Back to the hockey game.

Willie Dunn eh!. Now there is a fellow I've heard about more than once but have not had the pleasure of hearing or seeing him perform. Brother Norman speaks very highly of him. Maybe next year if all goes well this year we could do a little talking on a possible Dunn Bankley performance.

Off-topic

Well, Daddy's dancin to the accordion tunes... he's gettin jiggy with it
-gnu

gnu, I'm curious about your use of the hip-hop phrase "gettin' jiggy". As far as I know, "getting jiggy" means "dancing dirty". It's another way of saying "dancing freaky" or "gettin down" on the dance floor [the latter being a compliment and nothing more]. I think that "gettin jiggy {with it}" largely refers to sensous butt shakin. But I suppose that phrase could just mean "showing your best dance moves" [since nowadays, in social dancing, the best dance moves are the ones that are the sexiest].

Did you mean that Daddy {you or your father?} are/is dancing or are/is going to show your best moves {dance your heart out} to the accordian music [at the festival]?

I'm curious because I'm interested in how African American/hip-hop slang is used among various populations {and age groups} in different geographical locations. I'm asking this on this public forum because some other folks might also be interested in the meaning of this phrase and what you meant when you used it. *

Thanks in advance for your response.

* Of course, it's also possible that I'm the only one interested in this and/or other folks already know what you meant when you used that phrase-and the word "Daddy".

Um, ah, er, gosh... dance a jig? Irish jig? Accordian music figures large in many Celtic tunes. I didn't mean to step over any boundaries. And, I don't think I did.

If Will can come into my living room and say that phrase on Oprah's show and I happen to use it as a jest.... ?? Come on, eh?

So. I meant it as a joke, within it's context. As far as Daddy being me or my old man and the rest of the questions... it was a joke. Calm down, take a pill... DARE I say chill?

Lighten up darlin!

Hey gnu! So you want me to lighten up? Well, I'm tempted to say, but it's gonna be summer soon, and therefore I'll be getting darker", but if I say that you might think I'm serious about that too. Oops! I said it didn't I. Well, that was a joke, but my question about you use of the word "jiggy" and "daddy" were my asking questions in an arm-chair etymologist kinda way.

I know I have a weird sense of humor {humour}, but I didn't mean my questions to be interpreted as though I was on a set {angry} or that I took exception to any slang terms of African American coinage or subsitute meanings being used by folks other than African Americans. As Oprah Winfrey said in one of Senator Barack Obama's rallies in South Carolina this year, that would be "playin me small".

Before you mentioned it, I didn't "get" that the word "jiggy" came from the word "jig" meaning "dance" or "a type of dance". See, that's why sometimes I dare to ask questions even when there's a possiblity that folks might mis-interprete your motives for doing so. I have to tell you, gnu, part of the reason why I dared to ask you that question, is that I feel as though I know you as a friend on this forum, and I knew you were cool {as in "good people"}. And the other reason why I didn't hesitate to "butt" in and ask that question about whether jiggy meant the same thing as I thought it did {and that you confirmed it did} was that through their postings on this forum, I have also grown to know the other folks who have posted on this thread, and I knew that they were also cool, and I also consider them my online friends, and therefore wouldn't I thought that they wouldn't mind me going off-topic in this conversation for a minute or so.

[It just occurred to me that Senator John McCain uses that phrase "my friends" a lot. Well...when I use it, I mean it]. And so, gnu, my friend, I'mma say the same thing to you that you said to me-"Calm down, take a pill... DARE I say chill?" And don't forget to lighten up! Summer's just around the corner.

Best wishes,

Azizi

:o)

gnu, I just saw your second post to me. The first thing that popped into my mind when I read it was "There you go again". hinNow which politician was it that said "There you go again? I think it was Reagan...Sorry I've become a political junky. It's becoming an addiction...I'd rather think in musical or slang terms.

What I mean, gnu, is that it's okay that you called me "darlin". I know you don't mean it in the sweatheart sense of the word. Then again, even if you called me "sweatheart", I know lots of men call women that but they don't mean anything personal about it.

As the hip-hoppers say, it's all good. And I'm serious about that.

And for some reason this old song popped into my head but with a change in lyrics-"It's Cherry Pink and Apple Hollow time".

But then I goggled it and it turns out the words are actually-It's "Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White". White? Who knew?!

Not that this has anything to do with the price of beans in Boston.

But I just felt like sharing.

Here's a link in case anyone wants to check out the words to that song that probably isn't a folk song, not that it matters to me since I'm not really a folkie, or maybe I am. It depends what the meaning of folkie is.
