It's been snowing off and on all morning but being near the coast (North-east UK) it's a bit wet and slushy. The sun is shining at present so I will go to the woods with the dogs and hope that there will be 'real' snow a couple of miles inland.

By the way has anyone seen the BBC weather of late? They have started giving the temp & then saying "but with the wind it will fell more like" & then putting a strange bar at the bottom right of the screen with a number of white blobs in. What's that suppost to men?
Next week the weather forcast will be " today it will be raining blue triangles, with scattered green squares followed by yellow oblongs".

Don't know which optimistic fools decided to make much of this weekend's Glasson Maritime Festival happen in (unheated) marquees. The Lancashire coast in March isn't exactly known for its balmy weather at the best of times. Certainly not fair on the performers ... and this audience member gave up and came home... I'm beginning to thaw out (just); but have vowed not to bother going next year.

He just wants to come a visit Nanny in Maine where we've been knee deep in the stuff since before Christmas.

Today it's bright and sunny but still quite cold right now. The snow banks are diminishing and we're hoping that, by May, we might see signs of Spring (and the mud season that comes when all that snow really starts melting).

Chilly but sunny in Sunny Colorado, on the western slope of the Rockies, that is; not sure what's happening on the eastern slope, i.e. Denver, etc. There's a breeze this morning which my dau. has deemed too chilly for our grandson to look for Easter eggs in the garden, so we're waiting a call up for when it is warmer. It is supposed to get up into the 50s all this week, with chilly nights in the 30s and 40s. Still my daffs are starting to bloom!

I gave up snow for spring when we moved from Wyoming. My sisters said it was snowing up a good one, yesterday, up there.:-)

In SoCal we're suffering from Al Gore's man-made global warming...it was near ninety F. here on Sunday.
The above sentence is kinda awkward. I did not mean that Al Gore actually caused it to be warm; at least I don't think I did. I really think the fault lies with daylight savings time. Was it RL Stevenson who wrote, "In summer quite the other way, I have to go to bed by day."?

Cold. Real cold. And still windy (though not as bad as Friday).

But at least it's not snowing! (I don't even want to think about it.)

In less than an hour I'll be in a 92 degree F. pool for the first part of my physical therapy.

Firewood (we heat primarily with wood -- oil furnace backup) has to be chopped out of the ice and burns cold.

I'm trying to defrost the freezer in the little fridge upstairs -- might take all week. Been working on it for over a day already and have only been able to siphon off a little melt -- because it's not meltng!!!

Well, let's see -- it's still in Quick Change mode.

Woke up yesterday to a dusting of snow. It really doesn't want to give that up.

This morning was MUCH warmer (predictions said 60 F. -- and now according to the computer it's 57 F.) with fog and now rain. Both fog and rain (and, of course, temperature finally much higher than freezing) is great for getting rid of the miserable snow that's still stacked up around here. (I'm talking Nottingham in particuar -- surrounding towns and Portsmuth have very little left.)

The driveway is mud, of course. Haven't been able to drive down it for weeks and last time I walked it (Sunday afternoon) there was too much fresh snow to be able to check on the snowdrops, etc.

But this is good news -- maybe today Tom's car can be extricated from the ice and gotten to his mechanic's and fixed so I have the use of my car again, now that I can finally drive after breaking my arm in December. After all, he has to get to work and I have to get to physical therapy, etc.

This is the third year in a row that the sagebrush desert of northern Nevada has been below normal in temperature. Yesterday was the first time (that I am sure about) where the high broke 80 degrees F. At 82, It didn't break it by much.

It is expected be over 90 at least three of the next four days. That'll wake up the horned toads.

Typical spring weather, at least as far as the temperature variations go. At least we didn't have the flooding that New Hampshire has had for the past two years!

I got some of the deck pots planted the other day -- chives from the holding bed, salad fixings, nasturtiums. And today I schlepped some more dirt up to the half barrel at the head of the driveway that the mailbox is planted in -- and planted leftover (from the flowers of season before last) petunia seeds. Hope it's not too late for seeds -- can't afford to buy a flat this year.

What had been a few violet plants scattered around the driveway has wildly proliferated this year -- they're almost solid in the holding bed (which is actually my loam pile) and popping up in the "lawn" worse than the euphorbia. Think I'll move some into the turnaround and maybe up on the bank -- see what else they like.

Counted the ladyslippers again as I walked down the driveway. Spotted 12 yesterday, but counted 14 today. Only a couple are already pink -- the others aren't ripe yet. We had 40-some last year. (Hmm...can't remember, and my annotated calendar from 2007 has gone missing before I could transcribe it.)

Tom killed a mosquito this morning -- maybe their arrival is why I wasn't bothered by blackflies today.

The changeover from our two seasons, those being snow blowing and lawn mowing, has almost past. In the low 40's, but the snow on the ground has not melted.
Woke up to an eye infection. Too dry in the house, now that the heating system is running at night.

I miss snow. I miss ice storms. I miss thunderstorms. Used to have some awesome weather in Virginia. Essex UK gets mostly grey and rain broken intermittently by sun.

I miss real weather. Sunny here at the moment.

It's been crisp and cold the last few days but this morning we have a couple inches of snow out there. This always happens as the weather turns.

We're expecting about 5" of snow before it turns to rain.

It's coming on 6:30 and I haven't taken the dog on her walk yet. She's gonna be one happy puppy. She's a Cairn terrier and she loves the snow.

I am a little weatherman, you'll see me on TV,

Oh! The mysteries of forecasting are really quite obscure,
But the use of Doppler radar makes prediction very sure,
I forecast dry and sunny, over twenty three degrees,
And it rains so hard the water level's well above your knees,
        Take a tip, take the day off, take the car, get out of town,
        Pay a visit to the seaside, and you're sure to come back brown,
        You may boast about your suntan, if you really feel you must,
        But, unless they're blind or stupid, they will realise it's rust.

I stood upon me little box, one dark and stormy night,
And I told ten million viewers "There's no hurricane in sight",
Next morning, scattered far and wide were fifteen million trees,
I must be the country's worst case of the foot in mouth disease,
        And since that day I've tried right hard, to cover my backside,
        I predict the worst scenario, whatever might betide,
        For repeating that fiasco is the last thing I would wish,
        So TOMORROW WILL BE ROTTEN, and goodnight from Michael Fish.

Maybe I shouldn't tell you about our weather in the Sierra Nevada foothills of California - it's absolutely perfect. Crisp, cool air and blue skies - and we look down on the carpet of fog that covers the Sacramento area. It's cool enough for a fire in the woodstove, but not uncomfortably chilly.
