Subject: Lyrics for Woodbine Annie From: RamblinStu Date: 30 Mar 08 - 03:35 PM I was in Norwich Folk Club on Friday and heard this song "Woodbine Annie" about a lady of the night from Dover. I live in Dover and have never heard the song before, probably lived a sheltered life. If anyone has the lyrics I would be most grateful. Stuart Pendrill |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Woodbine Annie From: Jim Dixon Date: 02 Apr 08 - 08:07 AM WOODBINE ANNIE was written and recorded by John Bryant, and appears on his LP "John Bryant" Polydor 5520. It was also released as a single: Polydor 15062. Apparently you can download the song at MSN Music. That's all the information I could find – not even a date! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Woodbine Annie (John Bryant) From: GUEST Date: 17 Mar 11 - 06:58 PM Hi! I've only just read this and think it was actually me singing 'Woodbine Annie' at the Folk club in Trowse in Norwich (my frien's mum Mauny is one of the founder members)- it's always been one of my favourite songs and was on an album my ex-husband had by John Bryant. Both my daughters learned it very early on and used to sing it in the car when they were tiny - probably not an appropriate song for children! I usually only sing it nowadays when I've had a drink although I sang it to fellow trekkers round a camp fire last year when I walked along the Great Wall of China for Parkinson's UK. Best wishes Lynda |
Subject: Lyr Add: WOODBINE ANNIE (John Bryant) From: GUEST Date: 17 Mar 11 - 07:19 PM WOODBINE ANNIE (John Bryant) Woodbine Annie was a well-known lady - all the sailors knew her name, She was loved by everybody in Dover - Annie was on the game. She'd been doin' what she did for years, but she never took money yet Woodbine Annie only got her name 'cos she'd do it for a cigarette Chorus: Annie baby I'm a sailor boy, and it's a year since I saw land, All I want to do tonight is lie on you Woodbine Anne. Freddie the Copper said he's never shop her - she was doing more good than bad She could prove to be the only attraction Dover had ever had! Well, her bed was bust and the springs were rusty but she loved her living so, Woodbine Annie kept a-riding on- but the horse died long ago (Chorus) Woodbine Annie she passed away in a home of ill-repute She was buried by the Royal Navy to a twenty-one gun salute. When she died you could see the tears fall from many a roving eye - She may be dead but she aint forgotten - you can still hear the sailors cry: (Chorus, twice) Hope this helps - Lynda from Norwich |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Woodbine Annie (John Bryant) From: GUEST,Mark Butler North Avoca NSW Aust Date: 24 May 11 - 05:15 AM Hi, I have a vinyl copy of the album by John Bryant. It's one of those albums you can play over and over and never get sick of it. I am wondering if there is anyone out there who has a lead to John Bryant, as I would like to track down any other albums he may have released. I have checked all the usual sources and cannot find a lead. |
