Today, after a search of 20+ years I have finally found myself a tricorne hat that a) I like and b) fits my dainty little head.

Don't ask why a tricorne - I've just always wanted one... and it'll help tremendously with my Don Giovanni impressions.

After all the doom, gloom and despondency threads here, I thought I'd share some happy stuff.

Anyone else made a purchase that's made them happy this week?

I already have a tricorn hat. It's quite plain and "of the people", much like I am.

Sometimes at Christmas I put a sprig of holly in it.

I haven't bought anything this week, but I did see my favorite rock band in concert Sunday night and that made me VERY happy.

I also have plans to get together for dinner with some girfriends Saturday and that will be fun, too!

My apparel purchases were modest: I bought a package of socks (quarter cut or ankle length) for my son. The sock gremlin stole all of his this week.

My heart hit the floor. I thought Kendal;l was replacing the black cowboy chapeau.
I wore a hat for Easter and it was suggested that I hang a price tag from it and push a shopping cart. I am not a hat person.

I've been the recipient of a couple of very nice all wool caps in the past few weeks, but both were too small and have since been passed on to friends.

Ah ha! Hoe timely. Last night at the Folk Festival I bought a crushable canvas hat, the AFF logo right in front. It will come in handy on our misty days and I like it.

Many congratulations on your Hat Purchase, Liz ! I always say, you can't beat a nice new hat.... Have you been to Camden High Street/Camden Market ? That's a great place for hats.

You asked about other people's happy purchases this week. Well, I've bought (at a ridiculously low £2.50) on eBay the original London cast recording of the musical "The Canterbury Tales" - saw the show well over 30 years ago and have never forgotten the lovely songs, but have never heard them since. Do you think I should maybe start looking for a Medieval HAT to go with it ?

I am now on holidays until 29th April, thank goodness - it has been a stressful term (I work in the school system). And in less than a year now we will be retiring.

That makes me very happy, almost as happy as Liz' new hat has made her.

I bought some airline tickets -

I'll be visiting friends in Bendigo - HOORAY!

in July, that's mid-winter & it gets below freezing in Central Victoria in mid-winter - BOO HISS, I'm an inner city bird & I'm not used to below-freezing weather!

Their guest room is their campervan, & their shower & toilet are in a drafty lean-to outside their very old & very tiny house. Apparently ya get very cold if ya need to use the loo in the night.

Good thing I discovered thermal underwear last year, & good thing they can put up mid-winter guests in a nearby B&B if it gets below freezing!

Not bought anything recently apart from a gorgeous dress from Monsoon I wore for my brothers passing out parade last week. Need to be doing a fair amount of saving up for later in the year so my shopping days have been stopped!

Congratulations, Liz.

I have been knitting hats lately. I bought a skein of pinky orange wool from Canada. It is called Paton's Divinity, and it contains acrylic, real wool, and mohair. I thought it must make a wonderfully warm hat. Trouble is, there was so much pink yarn left over from making the hat. So I bought a skein of white to make a pink and white hat. But there was so much white left over, I bought greeen to make 1) a green hat and 2) a green and white hat.

If there is white left over from that, I'm going to make a little headband. By then, summer will be upon us and hat production will cease.

Oh, PMB, those are great hats! I would so wear D03!

I love hats, and have several very old ones of the 'must be pinned to your skull' variety. Mostly, however, I wear widebrimmed canvas or straw affairs all summer to keep the sun off, as the old face and scalp really shouldn't be exposed to much more radiation.
