Subject: Folklore: Kevin Burke?
From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca

On a trip with a friend, was listening to a MIX CD of MP3s somone else had put together for him. Heard a fantastic song, a capella, which seemed to be about aerobics. Didn't know who it was or name of song. Asked the other friend who had compiled it, and he said it was Kevin Burke, but he didn't recall the title or CD it came out of.

Has anyone in the Mudcat Community come across this anomaly? I've gone through the discography at Kevin Burke's web-site, but they don't seem to give track listings or other helpful information.

IF someone could come up with the title at least, it would be wonderful. Would love to get Title, CD & if possible lyrics.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like whatsizname Graham's song - the American harmonica player who was with Open House. It's on one of their albums; that's about all I can tell you. He doesn't sing it, I don't think; seems it's one of the Irish lads.

There's another of his songs that is in my opinion vastly superior, I believe on the same album - it's all about your 'Classical Greeks' ...

Meself, could you be thinking it's a Mark Graham song? Mark performed with Kevin Burke in a group called Open House. Follow the link for clips from the group's album.

Yes, MARK Graham. I took a quick look at the album listings you linked to; didn't spot a suitable title, but didn't have time to listen ... I have it on a tape somewhere; will dig it out later if I get time, that might provide a good clue ...

Mark Graham's song "Jackson and Jane" is about a farmer who hears of the risks of animal fat and together with his cow and pig gets into aerobic exercise. It's on the [Kevin Burke's] Open House album, "Second Story".

Heard him do it in LA a couple months ago, where he performed with Tom Sauber and his son Patrick. A very fine show!

Also performed by Dave Firestine on the Round the House album "Keep This Coupon" (no clip, but here, and John Kirk on John & Trish Miller's album "Fly Around", for which there's a clip with a fraction of the song here.

Mark Graham's web presence is here.

Here's the link to info about the Kevin Burke & Open House album, Second Story: click.

The Open House web page (which has a broken link to the above): click.

Saw them in Tucson at least once, maybe twice. Great fun.

Yes, that's the song I was thinking of - now all we need is for George to drag himself home from The Auld Triangle and tell us all how clever we are ...
