Subject: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: TRUBRIT Date: 19 Apr 08 - 05:48 PM My right eye was pretty sore yesterday but I ignored it - wore my contacts and got on with life. Woke up this morning with a throbbing eye.......had to call the weekend eye doctor who wanted to see me and told me I have a nasty eye infection and tragedy of tragedies - can't wear my contacts for at least a week. Ao I am in coke bottle glasses - can't see properly - my depth perception is all off - eye is throbbing and I am one very unhappy puppy.......sympathy would be greatly appreciated. |

Sometimes it is hard to see (no pun intended) how things will look after they are all better but it *will* be better by and by. |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infecti From: TRUBRIT Date: 19 Apr 08 - 05:57 PM Thanks Ebbie -- really appreciated. I just feel so darned sorry for myself.........and I snarled at the eye doctor when he said I couldn't wear my contacts and it is hardly his fault..... |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infecti From: Rapparee Date: 19 Apr 08 - 06:27 PM It's a good thing that you say the eye doc, and don't worry about the glasses. I've known at least two people who who have lost all or part of their sight to eye infections. Better "pop bottle" glasses than a white cane. Use the time to figure out what caused the infection -- was it the contacts themselves? Or did they trap something under them? I'm glad you got medical attention pronto! |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infecti From: jacqui.c Date: 19 Apr 08 - 07:10 PM Gawd. Maine does seem to have its fair share of ailments right now! Kendall has a cold and Seamus is on steroids and complete rest for an inflammation around the cervical spine. Take it easy Deb - as Rap says, better bottle glasses than a white cane! |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infecti From: ClaireBear Date: 19 Apr 08 - 08:01 PM Dear, dear. Sounds awful! (Now, why did I read Rap's advice as "Better pop a bottle of white wine and have a glass than a cane"? Not bad advice, now that I think about it...) I do hope you're getting all the pampering you deserve. Please feel better quickly. Claire |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infecti From: TRUBRIT Date: 19 Apr 08 - 09:42 PM thanks to all -- am taking my sore eyes to bed with my third glass of wine......! all the sympathy greatly appreciated. This weekend cover doctor scared the living shit out of me-- he said I want to see you NOW. When I got there he looked most concerned so I asked him if he was worried and he said he ALWAYS worried about people's eyes. Then I told him my regular eye doctor told me I would NEVER go blind and he said - well, you never will - from myopia but there is always ulcers on the eyeball, chronic infections.......ugh. But I just HATE wearing my glasses - sniff, sniff..... |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: Barry Finn Date: 20 Apr 08 - 12:05 AM Don't let Seamus droole on your eye again, he's not sterile, espically when you're wearing contacts, he's not healthy either. Seamus don't go licking Deb's eyeball, she's not sterile, you may need to be put on steroids. Whoops, to late,,,,,,for you both,,,,,, You both should know better. My sympathies to you Deb, sorry for you. Barry |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: Hawker Date: 20 Apr 08 - 06:13 AM Had eye ulcers in the past! Not nice. I spent the last year fighting eye infections and minor irritations of the eye and have finally waved the white flag and gone back to wearing glasses, contacts and me just didn't get on that well, though I still have some for special occasions! Treat glasses as fashion accessories! I have just got 2 new pairs (On a buy one pair, get one pair free offer) they are 2 totally different styles - and I am actually enjoying my new look! Hope the eyes get better soon, better to see than carry the white stick! things wiull gert better, healing thoughts from Cornwall x Lucy |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: fat B****rd Date: 20 Apr 08 - 08:16 AM I, for once, can empathise completely. Last year I had a detached retina dealt with and this year had a new lens fited in the same eye (right) to deal with cataracts. I hope you're better soon, Trubrit. |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 20 Apr 08 - 09:57 AM more sympathy & pats on the shoulder coming your way. I tend to get conjunctivitis & have learnt to catch it before my eye turns into a nasty red glowing freak that frightens folks. I've had a few trips to the Eye Hospital Emergency dept in my adult years & all ended satisfactorily - the comb I poked into my eye did not scratch my eyeball, nor did the grit I rubbed into both eyeballs in a very dusty environment, & my floaters merely float about my eyeballs without affecting the retinas. And it will be years before my cataracts are bad enough to need removing. Eyes are precious & thick glasses are a pain. But the thick glasses will return to their cases soonish & you'll be able to see the world thru tiny pieces of plastic rather that bottle ends! sandra |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: SINSULL Date: 20 Apr 08 - 11:03 AM Deborah, Keep those contacts out! A friend in NYC defied the doctor and is now legally blind. Get new glasses made with plastic lenses. The coke bottle days are past. They can make attractive glasses for you. Besides, you are beautiful with or without glasses. Love you, Mary |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: Stilly River Sage Date: 20 Apr 08 - 11:38 AM I never even tried contacts, I went straight to glasses. But I've had a nasty stye all week, or an ingrown eyelash hair, or some combination of the both. I understand completely how aggravating it is when about 1 square inch of your body can be bonkers and mess up the functionality of all the rest of it. SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: TRUBRIT Date: 20 Apr 08 - 07:51 PM Thank you all so much---I am just really so sorry for myself......my eye hurts like hell and Mary, I love you for saying it but I feel so far from beautiful in glasses it isn't even funny. (The coke bottle ones I have ARE plastic -- glass ones for me are so heavy I couldn't wear them). I'm being good - I rrealy am and I am going to give my eyes complete rest for three days. All these cyber hugs and sympathies are certainly helping a lot...... I like the idea of blaming it on Seamus but actually I fell asleep in front of the fire last week waking up at 4.30 in the morning -- I usually wear the contacts 14 hours day but NOT 18 hours --- as I peeled them off, I knew I was in trouble..... Sandra - thought I was the only person in the whole world to have floaters!!!!!!! Lucy - eye ulcers - yuk!! I'm being good -- really really good just horribly bad tempered in the process |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: ranger1 Date: 20 Apr 08 - 09:13 PM Deb, I have horror stories I could (but won't, 'cause I like you) tell you about contacts... I hate eye infections, too. So be good and leave the contacts out for the duration. Remember, you don't wear white well, even in canes. |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 21 Apr 08 - 03:22 AM Deb, my first floater arrived a day or 2 before my annual visit to my eye specialist, & I had no idea what was going on, but he checked it out & told me what had happened. So when the second occurred some months later I knew ... BUT as it came with the most amazing visual hallucination I called the Eye Hospital & was advised to visit. It was hard to explain then, & still is, but I could see all the blood vessels in my eye in macro scale streaming out of the left side of my eye! When I was telling the Triage nurse she looked at me strangely & asked if I was using drugs, but the Doctor understood. I "eagerly" await my cataract operation, tho I am not eager to go thru the necessary further deterioration of my sight. It's bad enough crossing the road at dusk to read street signs, & almost missing buses at night cos I can't see their number till it's almost too late, but I know my sight will get worse before it can get better. Maybe you need some wonderful Dame Edna frames to take attention away from the thick lens. look after your eyes, they aren't easily repalceable! sandra |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: Barry Finn Date: 21 Apr 08 - 04:58 PM Sorry bout your eyes Deb, hope they're doing a bit better by now. Did yoi see the Doc about any meds, there are drugs that help with the pain, a few glasses of wine wounldn't either but you know that. If you fill a bath tub with vodka & dunk face first in it, hold your breath as long as possible while keeping you eyes open, it will help you to swear in Russian, won't do much for the eyes though. Good luck Barry |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: TRUBRIT Date: 21 Apr 08 - 11:44 PM Sandra -- floaters are so wierd, aren't they -- those that do not have them - check in with we that do.......... I have always said if I could have one wish, I would be able to SEE.......gloriously see without the aid of bits of plastic or coke bottles or anything else. The doc gave me antibiotics that i am supposed to put in my eyes every four hours -- like that happens!!!!!!!! But I am using the antibiotics about 3 times a day, which for me is good -- and WINE (WHINE???????) does wonders, thank you Mr.Finn |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 22 Apr 08 - 09:40 AM I've been wearing glasses since I was 11, apart from a very short interval in the 70's when I word hard contact lenses (covered with very groovy rose-coloured spectacles) cos my eyes became dust magnets which probably contributed to my decision to go back to wearing glasses! keep taking your medicine(s) sandra |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: Rapparee Date: 22 Apr 08 - 09:45 AM Heck, I've been wearing glasses since I was six years old. Never have worn contacts. Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: Bat Goddess Date: 22 Apr 08 - 09:56 AM I can sympathize! I LOATHE wearing glasses -- I see soooo much better with my contacts. A coupla years ago during an extremely stressful time I managed to get conjunctivitis in one eye for the first (and I hope last) time ever. Had to put antibiotics in several times a day and not wear contacts until all the antibiotic was gone, even though the eye redness and irritation went away fairly quickly. I've since gotten new glasses -- bifocals, fer-pete's-sake -- but I still see much less clearly through them than I do the contacts. But from when I broke my arm in December until the morning of the New Hampshire primary, I couldn't put my contacts in because I couldn't get my left hand that high on my face. Now THAT was annoying! Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: TRUBRIT Date: 22 Apr 08 - 11:13 PM Well - I was driving to a client's house tonight to get some paperwork signed and I remembered one of the biggest issues with glasses is. CAN'T SEE A DAMN THING AT NIGHT....have an appointment with my eye doctor tomorrow - hope to be given the ok to go back to the little pieces of plastic. Sandra in Sydney -- I remember those hard contacts -- in my case worn consistently under 'shades' --- those bloody things hurt like hell |

Basically he scared the living shit out of me ==and I am still in glasses tonight...... |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: Bat Goddess Date: 24 Apr 08 - 07:21 AM I started out with hard lenses -- and for the past gazillion years have been wearing gas permeable hard lenses. I never had any problem with hard lenses -- rather miss the intense blue they turned my already blue eyes. (Unnerving, though, to be giving a sales pitch for a wood heating system and have the customer, apparently ignoring what I've been saying, stare into my eyes and say, "You've got the most incredible blue eyes....") I wear my glasses instead of contacts when I go for physical therapy -- just don't want to deal with contacts and the pool at the same time. So I've got glasses on right now. Really annoying, though, because even though they are as current a prescription as my contacts, I don't see anywhere as well with them. Sigh. Hope you're back in contacts soon! Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: TRUBRIT Date: 24 Apr 08 - 01:01 PM Yahoo -- back in contacts!!!!!! Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: Becca72 Date: 24 Apr 08 - 03:55 PM A handful of years ago I scratched my cornea while applying my makeup (got to remember to trim those nails!!) and the ER doc gave me antibiotic ointment to put in and told me that eye cells regenerate quickly so I should go home and go to sleep and the next day I should feel much better. Well, the next day it was MUCH worse and one of the most painful things I've ever experienced. Another trip to the ER determined that I was allergic to the ointment. (Sigh) it sucks to be 'sensitive'. I hate eye issues! Glad you're feeling better, Deb! |

Subject: RE: BS: Poor me -- I have a horrible eye infection From: Dave'sWife Date: 26 Apr 08 - 06:24 AM TRUBRIT - I had an eye infectin when I was 17 the week before I was supposed to be a maid of honor at my Sister's wedding (the first of 3 as it turns out) and when I was whining about the itch and discomfort, an elderly italian lady I knew gave me some of the best advice I'd ever gotten on how to achieve relief. She told me to take some black tea bags (as opposed to herbal), soak them in some cool but not cold water, squeeze most of the water out of them leaving them damp and then lay them on top of my closed eyelids while laying down on my back. She said leave them there for at least 10 minutes and lionger if you can stay still. She claimed the mild tanic acid and othercompounds in the black tea would soothe the itch and inflammation. Well, did it ever! it really helped me get some rest at night and also helped with that awful crust that can glue your eyelid shut. I use this remedy now for just tired or ellergy irritated eyes. I have used Chamomile myself even though she specified black tea and that seems to help too. |
