Subject: Jeffco schools retract music cuts From: Rex Date: 20 May 99 - 01:04 PM Hello all, just to let you know, the Jefferson County School board has decided not to cut elementary school music. I'm riled at them for even considering it and have decided to stay in their face awhile. Maybe they won't try it again. Heh, they will. I know the issue is money and it's a shame that schools have to scratch for it. Every tax levy increase for Jeffeson County has been voted down in recent years. I don't pretend to know the answer but taking music away from the kids when they're just starting to develope language and numerical skills ain't it. Thanks for your interest. Rex |

Subject: RE: Jeffco schools retract music cuts From: bet Date: 20 May 99 - 08:35 PM Rex, so glad to hear your district is keeping music in the elementary grades. HATS OFF TO ALL YOUR EFFORTS, say in their face. It's really a bummer the way we have to fight to stay. I've been there, especially when we will have to raise taxes to keep what we have. We are getting a new principal next year and I am on the interviewing committee. Today we interviewed 4 canidates. I have no idea how they feel about elementary music. We had a set of questions we could ask and none of them mentioned music, art, or out-door ed, all of which are, right now, important parts of our curricluim. Reading and math were the only subjects talked about. Really makes me wonder what we will be getting to head the school. I do have to say it can't be any worse than what we have now. Hoping a change will be good. Anyway, Congradulations bet |
