Subject: 45 yrs on ERIC ANDERSEN finally tours UK From: GUEST Date: 01 May 08 - 03:18 PM ....and the debut gig is this Sunday in Twickenham. Plenty of tickets left. TwickFolk at THE CABBAGE PATCH PUB 67 London Road TWICKENHAM Middlesex TW1 3SZ My Space www.MySpace.com/TwickFolk Advance Tickets www.wegottickets.com/location/466 Website www.TwickenhamFolkClub.com May 4th ERIC ANDERSEN (USA) 8pm £10 adv/£11 door Plus support from Linda Watkins Born in Pittsburgh, Eric Andersen emerged in the early sixties together with Phil Ochs and Bob Dylan on New York's Greenwich Village folkscene. His best-known songs from that time are "Violets of Dawn," "Come to My Bedside" and "Thirsty Boots" (the latter was recorded by Judy Collins and several others). In 1966, he made his debut at the Newport Folk Festival and that same year he starred in the Andy Warhol movie 'Space'. 1972 saw the release of Andersen's most commercially successful album, 'Blue River' on the CBS label and in 1975 he performed with Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue. After falling into obscurity for a number of years, he re-emerged in 1988 with a new album, 'Ghosts Upon the Road' which was widely praised and placed on a number of critics' year-end "best of" lists. Most of the 90's were spent with the trio Danko/Fjeld/Andersen together with The Band's Rick Danko and Jonas Fjeld but by the end of the decade he was working again as a solo artist. 'You Can't Relive The Past in 2000 contained several songs co-written by Townes Van Zandt. The title track of his next album Beat Avenue in 2003 was a 26-minute epic constructed round a 'jazzy beat poem' recalling his experiences among San Francisco's beat community on the day of President Kennedy's assassination. His latest album Blue Rain (2007) was recorded live in Norway and contains a blend of blues, jazz and folk. The list of celebrated artists who have recorded Eric's songs and otherwise collaborated with him is too long to mention but sufffice it to say TwickFolk is delighted to be hosting the opening night of his first ever UK tour. http://www.myspace.com/ericandersentributepage Welsh singer-songwriter and guitarist Linda Watkins will be opening for Eric. Linda is based these days in Buckingham and though she has visited us on several occasions tonight will mark her first appearance on the TwickFolk stage. http://www.myspace.com/lindawatkins |

Subject: RE: 45 yrs on ERIC ANDERSEN finally tours UK From: Rog Peek Date: 02 May 08 - 06:36 PM Just booked to see him on Friday in Chippenham. Never been a great fan, got to know of him through his association with Phil Ochs. First heard him on record doing a duet of "I Shouda Known Better" with Phil. Just have the one album, "'Bout Changes and Things". Do have some film of him talking about Phil on a docudrama made for TV around 1983, directed by Michael Korelenko. I'm looking forward to hearing him live, hope he sings 'Thirsty Boots', love that one. Rog |

Subject: RE: 45 yrs on ERIC ANDERSEN finally tours UK From: GUEST,Twickfolk Date: 05 May 08 - 07:49 AM Eric was excellent last night...I'd urge people to catch him on this tour if they can. He has a wonderful catalogue of songs built up over four decades...He revisited many of the older ones from waaaaay back (Violets of Dawn, Blue River, Thirsty Boots) as well as more recent efforts (including co-writes with Townes Van Zandt and Lou Reed). He referred to Reed as one of the greatest living folk singers... It's amazing to think we'd just seen a concert by the same guy responsible for this odd bit of psychedelia recorded back in the Summer of Love. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Nhmx2fFnFE&feature=related |
