Subject: Obit: Irina Sendler (Warsaw ghetto Angel) From: GUEST,Wolfgang (on a wrong computer) Date: 12 May 08 - 01:00 PM Sendler, savior of Warsaw Ghetto children, dies "Today I know well that I have not done everything possible. I could have saved more. I feel a pang of conscience and will feel it until I die" (Irina Sendler) Tortured for weeks, very closely escaping death, wheelchair-bound for the rest of her life, she feels she has not done enough. Incredible, awe inspiring and humbling. Wolfgang (in tears) |

Subject: RE: Obit: Irina Sendler (Warsaw ghetto Angel) From: katlaughing Date: 12 May 08 - 10:12 PM At least Greycap tried to phrase it nicely. Perhaps s/he doesn't know that all obit threads begin above the line until they are moved by a moderator. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Irina Sendler (Warsaw ghetto Angel) From: Teribus Date: 14 May 08 - 01:26 AM The Obituay I read yesterday states that she was inspired by her father, a doctor who died in 1917 tending poor Jews suffering from Typhus. From his example she firmly believed that if anyone, but particularly the poor, the weak, the defenceless, were in need of help then it was your duty to help them. The example she used to give was that if you see someone drowning in a river, you jump in and try to save them irrespective of whether you can swim or not. Rest I Peace a kind and noble lady. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Irina Sendler (Warsaw ghetto Angel) From: freda underhill Date: 14 May 08 - 04:10 AM She saved over two thousand Polish Jewish children, including babies she removed to safety by placing them in workman's bags and larger children by hiding them in coffins. She was very brave in a terrifying time. great post, Wolfgang. freda |
