Hi, was wondering if anyone a little more computer smart than myself can help me. In July I will be celebrating my 40th birthday. In the past my wife and I have used the generic looking e-vites when we have had an event we invite people for (the kind where the most you can do is change the backdrop). What I want is an old timey invite, I have seen them, with a more traditional font, and also deliberately wordy ( Robert requests your welcome presence at the anniversary of his birth in the year....that type of thing. I know I have examples of that too). I know I could just create an invite like that on a blank page, and just send it out as a mass email, but I really like those evites where you can leave replies, it shows you how many people have responded or not responded etc. So does anyone know of a good template for that type of thing? Sorry this is so longwinded, but I want this to be a really fun night, and I want to plan all aspects of it for a change, and this is what I want. BTW, the place has yet to be determined, but if there are any NYC mudcatters out there, let me know, you'll all be invited too! Cheers!

A lot of people will simply trash electronic postcards unread because of the malware hazards. You certainly wouldn't get me to your party that way... I've never followed a link to a single one of them.

Better to create your own design and include it as an attachment to a regular email. You probably have nice fonts already, and some programs will let you include a picture...etc...

Alternatively, set up a web page as a designed invitation and send the guests the URL. You could really go to town with linked features, such as wedding lists. I'm sure protocols exist to ensure privacy...

Why did I think it was a wedding invitation? Sorry about that!

No worries Sedayne, thanks to you and everyone else. I would love to have done actual paper invites, but I only got married in January, and the thought of picking out paper, and fonts, and envelopes is too fresh in my head for me to do it again!

I've got a nice program which does beautiful cards, invites, etc. I've never tried to send one by email as I like printing them out and mailing them. It is Greetings Workshop. You can create anything you want with it.

Signing guest lists, etc. is a bit more complicated. What about a private group at Yahoo? That's what we did when we wanted to keep Art Thiemes' computer project a secret from him. Only those folks to whom you send an invitation are allowed to post, etc. It was very easy to start the group. Also, people can choose whether to be notified by email when someone else posts to it, etc.

Congratulations!

Friends of mine have had pretty good success with Evite.com though I don't know how fancy you can make it...
