Subject: RE: Lyr Req: kids songs about flying, airplanes, etc From: GUEST,Karen Date: 23 May 11 - 09:56 PM Last week of preschool here too and we're having a fun week. We'll be making paper airplanes tomorrow and then having airplane races. One of the songs I found is..... Did you ever see an airplane, an airplane, an airplane? Did you ever see an airplane way up in the sky? There are big ones and small ones. And short ones and tall ones. Did you ever see an airplane way up in the sky? They fly this way and that way And that way and this way Did you ever see an airplane way up in the sky? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: kids songs about flying, airplanes, etc From: Young Buchan Date: 29 Oct 09 - 06:26 AM Like several correspondents my immediate reaction was Guthrie's Ship in the Sky. I just have this horrible feeling that today's generation of kids would be happier singing that song about the parachutist which ends: We scraped him off the tarmac like a lump of strawberry jam. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: kids songs about flying, airplanes, etc From: GUEST,Guy Brooke Date: 28 Oct 09 - 11:21 PM JUst stumbled on this thread looking for something else and thought I'd share with you a rhyme I learnt at Kindergarten at a military jet base over 45 years ago! Aeroplanes, aeroplanes, all a row aeroplanes, aeroplanes, ready to go! Hark, there're beginning to buzz and to hum. Engines all ready so come along come. Now they are flying up in sky faster and faster and EVER so high We sat in a row along the floor (as aeroplanes of course) and made appropriate engine sounds. Then as the plane took off we swooped our hands as high as we could It was taught to me in my first week in school with such gusto and enthusiasm, I can still hear the teacher today! enjoy |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: kids songs about flying, airplanes, etc From: Tangledwood Date: 24 May 08 - 07:50 PM I heard one on the radio about forty years ago and have never heard it again. No idea who "did" it. Boeing, Boeing 707 going, going skywardly heavenly Higher than bluebirds fly Why then, oh why can't I? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: kids songs about flying, airplanes, e From: GUEST,cStu Date: 24 May 08 - 11:29 AM Was it The Seekers who did "Up Up and Away in my beautiful balloon"? Nope it was the 5th Dimension Would you like to ride in my beautiful balloon Would you like to ride in my beautiful balloon We could float among the stars together, you and I For we can fly we can fly Up, up and away My beautiful, my beautiful balloon The world's a nicer place in my beautiful balloon It wears a nicer face in my beautiful balloon We can sing a song and sail along the silver sky For we can fly we can fly Up, up and away My beautiful, my beautiful balloon Suspended under a twilight canopy We'll search the clouds for a star to guide us If by some chance you find yourself loving me We'll find a cloud to hide us We'll keep the moon beside us Love is waiting there in my beautiful balloon Way up in the air in my beautiful balloon If you'll hold my hand we'll chase your dream across the sky For we can fly we can fly Up, up and away My beautiful, my beautiful balloon Balloon... Up, up, and away..... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: kids songs about flying, airplanes, etc From: quokka Date: 24 May 08 - 05:28 AM There's one I remember from when my kids were little, it used to be on Playschool. Up in the air I fly Zoom, zoom, a-zoom a-zoom zoom Up in the big blue sky Zoom, zoom, a-zoom a-zoom zoom Zzzoooooom, zzzooooom, Zoom, zoom, a-zoom a-zoom zoom. Sorry I can't remember the other verses but it's a great action song as the kids run madly about being aeroplanes. Maybe someone will recognise it and add the rest! There's something about the word "zoom" that kids just love... Cheers, Quokka |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: kids songs about flying, airplanes, etc From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 23 May 08 - 01:46 PM All good suggestions- plus, I remember that last year we sang "Now let me fly" with great success. Keep em' coming! (Azizi, thanks for the test-pilot!) |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: kids songs about flying, airplanes, e From: Paul Burke Date: 23 May 08 - 11:42 AM No Azizi, we used to sing a whole bunch of these "reworks" to the kids, I can't remember whether we made them up or someone else did. They especially loved the rather grisly one: Down at the riverside early in the morning See the little crocodiles swimming to and fro. Watch as the children jump in the water..... Snap, snap, gulp, gulp, down you go! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: kids songs about flying, airplanes, etc From: Azizi Date: 23 May 08 - 11:40 AM As an elementary school Art teacher for the end of this year, my curriculum is quite flexible. It just so happened that I had a kindergarten class for the period after I read Paul's post. So I added that song to the classroom activity {with some changes in words, and adding some motions} Here's the song as I taught it [I felt that the children didn't "get" the connection with airplanes and the "whoosh, whoosh etc" line, so I changed that line too].. The Airplane Song {Version #2} Down at the airport early in the morning See the big airplanes all in a row. See the airplane pilot turn on the engine. Up in the sky, way up high- Off we go! -snip- We clapped hands on the first two lines and added motions to the words "see the big airplanes" {hand above your eyebrows in a looking far away motion-sorry,I can't explain it too well}, and on "all in a row", we pointed to an imaginary row of airplanes. On the line "see the airplane pilot turn on the engine, we pretended to be turning the key to an engine. On the words "off we go!" we jumped up high. I think this song is a keeper. I'll introduce it this afternoon to another combined kindergarten classes. Since a number of teachers are absent because it's the Memorial Day weekend, two classes are combined together-I just had two 4th grade classes :o( I did not teach those students that song. I'll be interested in knowing whether either version {or another version} of this song also worked for your kindergarten class, Animaterra. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: kids songs about flying, airplanes, e From: Jack Blandiver Date: 23 May 08 - 10:59 AM If you can't find a recording I'll make a recording of my father-in-law at the weekend and post it as an mp3 - assuming his voice is in order; he was singing in a concert of Purcell and Stanford last weekend but could barely croak last night. If you've got a broadband connection then it's simplicity itself to share mp3 files via YouSendIt.com. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: kids songs about flying, airplanes, etc From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 23 May 08 - 10:43 AM Sedayne, that's the one I remember! Didn't the Irish Rovers or some such record it? My dad listened to them over and over and over again. Wonder if I could find a recording of it- it might be a good one to do with the kiddies... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: kids songs about flying, airplanes, e From: Jack Blandiver Date: 23 May 08 - 09:08 AM My father-in-law sings this at our local folk club: Way out at London Airport In Hangar Number Four A lonely little biplane slept Whose name was Evermore His working days were over No more would he sail Upon his wings above the clouds, Flying the royal mail [chorus] Bye-bye, biplane Once-upon-a-sky plane Bye-bye, hush a bye, Lulla-biplane All the mighty jet planes Would look down their nose They'd laugh and say, Oh, I'm so glad That I'm not one of those. And Evermore would shake away The teardrops from his wings And dream of days when he again Could do heroic things [chorus] Then one day the fog and rain Had closed the airport down And all the mighty jet planes Were helpless on the ground When a call came to the airport For a mercy flight Twould be too late, they could not wait someone must fly tonight. They rolled the little biplane Out to Runway Number Five And though he looked so small and weak He knew he could survive And as he rose into the storm The jet planes hung their wings And they hoped someday, like Evermore, To do heroic things. [chorus] And so, my billy bundle I have spun a tale for you You must learn there's nothing In this world that you can't do. Now, do not be discouraged By circumstance or size Remember Evermore And set your sights up in the skies. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: kids songs about flying, airplanes, etc From: Azizi Date: 23 May 08 - 09:01 AM Ironically, I'm teaching Art to kindergarteners now. I'll try the song and see how they like it! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: kids songs about flying, airplanes, etc From: Azizi Date: 23 May 08 - 09:00 AM Sorry, I can only think of children's songs about birds flying. But I like Paul's re-make of the "Down By The Station" song. I don't know whether it was presented tongue in cheek. Even if it was, I think that song could really "work" for children of that age except I'd make a friendly suggestion of a change for American English children. I think that the third sentence needs to be changed because in the USA "joystick" is too closely associated with video games...or something else that we don't need to mention on a children's thread :o) Instead of that line, how about something like: "See the airplane pilot turn on the engine" [notice the spelling of airplane is different, and the pronunciation is slightly different, too] Enjoy! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: kids songs about flying, airplanes, e From: Paul Burke Date: 23 May 08 - 08:37 AM Down at the airport early in the morning See the little aeroplanes all in a row- Watch when the pilot pulls on the joystick- Swoosh, swoosh, zoom, zoom- Off you go! |
Subject: Lyr Req: kids songs about flying, airplanes, etc From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 23 May 08 - 08:27 AM It's my last month of school but I'm still trying new things. The kindergartners are learning about transportation, and next week they're focusing on flying- what young-kid-appropriate songs are out there - all I can think of is a dim memory with the chorus, Bye, bye bye plane Once upon a sky plane But I'm not sure it's the one I seek... Thanks as usual! |
