Hi all

We will be officially launching our new album 'Living History' on an unsuspecting public at Whitefriars Olde Ale House in Coventry on 27th June. Whitefriars is that rarest of beasts – a city centre pub that serves fantastic real ale and feels like a pleasant country hostelry. It's long been one of our favourite watering holes and session venues, so we're really looking forward to doing a proper gig there.

As well as the usual line-up we'll also be joined by Rupert de Jonghe on bass and Duncan Arrow on drums, both of whom played on the new album. This is a bit of a departure for us as previously we've been avowedly acoustic, but we felt that certain tracks from the new album would really benefit from a bit of extra drive. Initial rehearsals have taken place and we're really excited about the prospect of fleshing out the sound and re-jigging some of the songs we've been doing for the last few years as well the new ones. Who knows – if it works, maybe Isambarde Electric will become a thing of permanence!

Admission to the gig is free, but seating is limited so arrive in plenty of time if you're planning to sit down! The full address of the venue is Whitefriars Olde Ale House, Gosford St, Coventry CV1 5DL and we'll start playing around 8.30pm. There's a public car park round the back of the pub which costs a nominal 50p for the whole evening.

Hope to see you there!

Chris

Sorry mate, I'll have to cry off as I'm out for a mate's 21st.
Have a good one though, we must do a swap! ;-)

I'm definitely on for this, being right around the corner, so to speak, in Birmingham. See you all there!

Just a swift refresh ahead of the event. It looks as though we have quite a lot of people coming, so I really would get there early if you want to sit down!

Cracking launch last night!
The album is really good, and it was great to hear Isambarde pushing the boundaries a bit. The first set was the 'straight' Isambarde, with Chris, Em and Jude doing their thing on Guitar/mandocello, fiddle and oboe/other blowy things respectively on some very well-chosen material. Second half was the new venture, with the addition of drums 'n bass. It's difficult to do folk/rock these days without sounding like a tribute act, but Isambarde pulled it off magnificently. The three lead instruments (including electric guitar) produced a tight, complex woven sort of sound quite unlike the Fairport/Steeleye sound of yore. Add some terrific, unusual and well-judged harmonies and some really interesting arrangements (especially the set of 3/2 hornpipes), and it added up to a great evenings entertainment for a mixed crowd of folkies, punks and pub regulars alike. Don't miss their live version of Annan Water; it is spine-tinglingly good.
Sound was by the ubiquitous Graham and Laurence, and was excellent throughout.
If I sound like a fan, guilty; But a lot of other people were too, after last night.
Note to club and festival organisers; book this lot quick, while they are still affordable.
Tim:)

Thanks Tim - not just for the nice words here, but also for the ones last night in your capacity as impromptu MC. The general consensus within the band was a) the beer at Whitefriars is really nice and b) we'd all very much like to do it again! So watch this space for Isambarde Electric, coming to a venue near you!

Chris
