Thank you Jack. About 55 years ago we attended the same school. I admired you for your banjo-picking ability and loved the songs you sang ... particularly some made famous by the late Wade Hemsworth (Folk Songs of the Canadian North Woods). My favourite of all is Aid'l O Boy - a song that I play and sing to this day. I just wanted to let you know that, although you may not know it, I'm thankful that you touched my life for a short time and were a source of inspiration to me. I do hope you get to read this message. Perhaps someone who knows you will call your attention to it. THANK YOU!

Sarah,

I just got off the phone with Jack. I read him your post and he was thrilled (something I had to read into that modest guy he really is). I let him know that Mudcat Cafe is here and if he can work his way through the system, I don't doubt he'll post fairly soon--next few days.

Jack was much more than a fine singer/interpreter/guitarist to many of us. He stood staunchly for the rights of workers and had an amazing knowledge of the labour movement and Canadian folk songs. He's is a story teller and fine man. It will be my pleasure to spend a day with him in Montreal this July.

Hey Kids: Just saw the post about Jack and it's great to know he's still around. I remember spending many a night with him at the Yellow Door discussing all manner of things, but the thing that sticks out the most is Chinese Food. Jack would raise his eyes to the heavens with a look of love and just say, "GINGER" Ahhh...LOL. So many stories about Wade Hemsworth, The Mountain City Four, Kate & Anna McGarrigle. I will always remember his warmth and making this young American boy feel welcome. It would be wonderful to see him again...bob

p.s. And Jack, If you get to see this, I have just one thing to say to you...CHINATOWN!

To have the knowledge WHERE they are currently performing their mastery is a "treasure", as the Chinese would say...In the old days, it was "Teen Hong" & "Lung Fung" with Master Lee & Tex...

My thoughts for possible menu choices: 1/Crispy Chicken w/sea salt, 2/Canton Chow Mein
3/Salt & Pepper Spare Ribs 4/ Guy Choy 5/Garlic(serious)Shrimp, 6/Deep Fried Tofu 7/Stuffed Shrimp w/ water chestnuts 8/Crispy Beef with Noodles 9/Dumplings 10/Mixed Chinese Greens...

.... and to think ... my post has now taken me to Chinatown and now my mouth is watering! And yes to Beer (Adrien)- Mudcat is certainly a great place to hang out and reconnect. Which reminds me - when I was about sixteen (50 years ago) I loaned someone my Folk Songs of Canada and never got it back! So, Anne, if you're reading this, I'm still waiting for my wonderful songbook to return.
