Subject: Lyr Req: We'll rant and we'll roar, till the cops From: Richard Mellish Date: 07 Jun 08 - 05:28 PM Once upon a time I heard a very idiosyncratic version of the well-known We'll rant and we'll roar/ Spanish Ladies song. I'm pretty sure it was at one of the sessions in the Railway Tavern in Stratford East, some time in the late 60s. I remember one verse and the chorus, approximately: If you die out at sea, then you'll be an albatross. If you're a ship's cook, you'll be a penguin. A doctor's a grey owl and a priest is a white owl, But I'll drown ashore in the Fiddler's Green Inn. We'll rant and we'll roar, and we'll wake up the neighbourhood. We'll rant and we'll roar, till the cops run us in. Here's a health to the drunkard, drug addict and wenching man. Three cheers for the sailor who's living in sin. Does anybody know any more, or anything about it? Richard |
