I remember reading that Anka got $2,300 a pop for Johnny Carson's tonight show theme.

I remember reading that when Merv Griffin, original producer of the TV game show "Jeopardy" and composer of its theme music, sold the production rights for the show to Columbia in 1986, the deal didn't include the theme music. Instead, he retained the rights for himself and was paid a fee every time the theme was played. By the time of his death last year, he'd been paid around eight million dollars in royalties for that one little ditty.
