Hope someone in this mad community of ours might be able to help. One of the bosses in my job is wondering if its possible T2 to fly in its current state. looking at the aspect ratio of the wings, and the sheer bulk of the fusalage, I think not. But if someone knows a site where I might find the tech spec, it would be a great help. Then I can get the aerodynamics books out again(Hurrah!!) and try to work out a redesign so the thing will fly!

Wassail!! Chris

How about go to the makers website? If it's say, Boeing, go there. However the specs may well be 'classified'

Sorcha, I don't think Mattel will help much.... :-)

T2?!!!!

As designed by Gerry Andersen?

Well, if you put enough motive force (motors) on it, you can get a brick to fly...

You heard about the fly by wire F18 - or was it F16 - jet that lost its left wing in a mid air collision - the Israeli pilot put it at full throttle and landed it with only one wing ... it's a famous story...

Thunderbird 2 is definitely a fly by wire device, but in a slightly more literal sense.
Cheers
Dave

From Wikipedia

"Thunderbird 2
The most massive rescue vehicle of the Thunderbirds inventory, Thunderbird 2 is a supersonic vertical take-off and landing lifting body aircraft used for the transport of major rescue equipment and vehicles. Thunderbird 2 is 76 m long, 18 m tall, has a 55 m wingspan, and a maximum speed of 5,000 mph (Mach 7.6). It is hangared in its own large facility, along with its equipment pods. The pods house a variety of specialised rescue equipment, including Thunderbird 4, and are interchangeable depending on the mission. Thunderbird 2 utilises the island's landing strip (complete with folding trees to accommodate its wingspan) to take off and land. Throughout the entire run of the programme, Thunderbird 2 is the only craft seen to receive serious damage ("Terror in New York City"). The aircraft is piloted by Virgil Tracy, normally supported by at least one of Alan, Gordon, Brains, or (on rare occasions) John."

Sorry, but Thunderbird 2 is 12" long, 6" wide and 2" high and does not move at all, but the background does. If you look carfully, you see the same clouds coming round and round again.

Thanks for that Peace, time for a redesign I think, but the reverse swept wing is rather cool looking. But Mach 7.6, thats gonna need a hell of a lot of titanium.........................Oh well!!

Wassail!! Chris
