Just spotted the publishers announcement for a new book by Fintan Vallely, whose own songs have featured here in the past. Haven't seen it yet - but it sounds promising.

Thanks, Martin.
I'll try to pick it up when I'm home next week.

Got a copy a few days ago, at the Willy Clancy Week in Miltown Malbay. Highly recommended! I'll post some comments later. Can be purchased on line from the publishers:

At last it's materialised. Fintan asked me about ten years ago if he could include one of my songs. I said yes and never heard any more and presumed the project had died the death.

I got it.
A fine work, like everything all of the Vallelys (Vallelies?) do.

As Fred implies, the project has been a long time coming to fruition. As a result, some of the references may be a little esoteric for non-Irish readers - and even for young Paddies! Who remembers the year of the moving statues? Also, a few well-known favourites are notable absentees - probably for fear of bankrupting the small publisher with libel costs! Despite these small reservations, it's a great collection which captures a true purple patch in comic songwriting in Ireland (and a stray Scottish contribution). Fintan provides useful background notes in his own inimitable prose.

I'll post a copy of the index when I have a chance.

Regards

like Martin i too got a copy at the Willy Clancy week, I highly recommend it. It was especially nice to see that one of Paddy Collins father's songs (Mr.Stansfield) was included.

In the full text, Fintan discreetly refers to Dunne's Stores as "Ireland's most competitive cut-price supermarket" - so they might!

p.s. Of course, his comment is somewhat out of date by now...

The year of the moving statues forgotten? Is nothing sacred?!
