One set of investigations having to do with a bit of personal hanky-panky that had nothing to do with governing the country and the other about getting the country into a totally unnecessary war, revealing confidential information about CIA operatives and possibly endangering their lives as an act of petty vengeance against someone for insisting on adhering to the truth (no purchases of yellow cake by Iraq), not to mention a long string of violations of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. . . .

Yeah, I think there might be a qualitative difference here.

Far less than the investigations into Clinton by the Republican Congress is my guess.

Sorry about that. No Teribus, Rove is still a free man. I think he will remain so. All Waxman (Congressman from California)and his committee have done since the Demos gained the majority in the House is hold hearings on one thing or another hoping to jail the top people in the administration. Results? Zilch. How much have the taxpayers invested in those fishing expeditions? Heaven only knows.

"...alternative is to live at the bottom of a food chain in which only gangsters hold any power all the time."

That is the way things work in most of the world.

The standard unit of governance on planet Earth is the warlord.

I don't think that sort of cynicism is any use to most people in the long run. I don't know of an era in history in which all people were really subject to the law equally. The best we can hope for is that most people are subject to most of the law for most of the time. The alternative is to live at the bottom of a food chain in which only gangsters hold any power all the time.

Will next issue of the New Yorker magazine have Obama swearing his oath on the Koran on the cover?

This is probably the 'least' of the things that he should be charged with!!!!..And really, (as suggested in the video) Do you actually think that swearing an oath on the Bible would matter to him??..or Clinton??..or Bush?? Frankly, all the above(and more) are guilty of treason, and perjury!! Let's not be partisan about this...the corruption to our system of constitutional government has been at work for a long time...under both parties!!!

As far as Bush himself is concerned, I'm content to leave him to the judgment of history. That's going to be bad enough, and there are indications that he is aware of it and is worried about it. I wonder if he'll ever realize that, from the start, he's been the patsy, the fall guy, intended to divert attention from those who have been pulling his strings and are profiting hugely from the mess?

He isn't smart enough to be a real villain. As either a president or a major bad guy, he's like a turtle on a fence-post. It's obvious that he doesn't belong there, he certain didn't get there by himself, and the most humane thing one can do is to help him get down, so he can go back to the activities that he is said to be good at:   clearing brush on the Crawford, Texas ranch and presiding over week-end barbeques.

I'd take a good, hard look at all those no-bid contracts.

I keep thinking of Karl Rove in relation to the political practices in that brief period in Renaissance Italy when the Borgias were making their bid for power. Maybe I'm weird, but it strikes me that there was something at least straightforward and "honest" about a dagger thrust in a dark hallway or a dose of poison slipped into a goblet of wine compared to the kind of character assassination and sometimes possibly exposing his victims to personal endangerment (Valerie Plame and the agents she worked with) through leaks and lies, as Rove does.

At least the Renaissance assassin exposed himself to discovery and danger in doing his dirty deeds. Rove just sits in his office like a spider in its web and issues his toxic vapors from behind the safety of his desk. Not to mention hiding behind Bush's skirts.

And I'd like to see Dick Cheney in the cell next to Rove's.

In fact, I'm making a list . . . checking it twice. . . .

He is obviously a criminal, but I can't think of a criminal justice system in the world, which puts people like that away. Only fairly low to middling level criminals are subject to that sort of punishment.

"Steal a little and they throw you in jail
Steal enough and they call you king..."

A whole bunch of no-name folks do come out to rob banks, manufacture and sell drugs, rejoin gangs, participate in various sorts of crime they didn't know about until they went away.

Rove is a piece of shit, I wish he wasn't headed to such a posh prison, were he to go. But the facts of life are that a lot of people get sucked into a system and a pattern of recidivism that most of us are in communities that are poorer for it. That we're also poorer because of Rove is a separate issue.

'"Traditional" prisons have such an intense critical mass of people that they make hardened criminals out of a lot of folks who would do better with probation and community service.'

We wouldn't want Karl Rove coming out just to run around and rob banks, would we.

"Nothing. He'd go to one of those country club prisons and play golf every afternoon."

Why do we have those things? Remember Michael Milkain(sp?), the junk bond king. He bilked thousands of people out of their life savings, went to one of those country club places, and when he got out, a major university (Harvard of someplace) hired him to teach graduate students how to bilk people out of their savings.

The purpose of laws (and enforcement of same) is to discourage people from doing things that are contrary to the public good. If you don't enforce them, there are, effectively, no laws.

It could happen but it should happen later rather than sonner or you know who will pardeon him.

Additional charges of his direct involvment in dixcarding the votes of soldiers and other vote tampering charges are also key to restoring justice to our system.

I'm thinking that Karl Rove has got something on most of the people in Congress and this has gotta be the only reason they don't go after him. He's too intelligent not to leave himself a way out if things got real sticky. The guy is smart (he managed to make W look good enough to get elected twice....somehow) but unfortunately he sided with the Dark Side.

He is in contempt of Congress. That's enough right there. After he's testified under oath (if they have the spine to haul him in), they no doubt will have plenty more to charge him with.

Seriously, if the Special Counsel that railroaded Scooter Libby couldn't find anything to charge Karl Rove with, what leads you folks a petition is going to do it?

Just signed the petition.

There are a lot of people in the Bush administration who seem to think that they are above the law. It's about time to jerk them up short and make examples of them--to forstall any aspiring future slimeballs.

Karl Rove is a disgrace to anything on the evolutionary scale higher that a leech.

Well, it probably won't happen but I did hear on NPR today that several people in the Bush administration might find traveling to foriegn countries scarey after Bush is officially out for fear of being nabbed and put before the World Court for war crimes... Them being scared is, at the very least, a good start...

But I'll sign the petition...

Well, I signed. And I was happy to forward the video and petition to some of my rigidly-right friends.

If we, as a country, let Rove get away with this, we, as a country, have lost something irretrievable, imo.

Thanks, kat.
