Subject: voice and cheese From: The Sandman Date: 24 Jul 08 - 07:45 AM having previously cut out milk in my diet, but am still having problems with catarrh. I have decided to cut out cheese, and am treating my problem with elderfower tea, just wondered if any other singers had had a problem with catarrh, and whether they had looked carefully at their diet.I thought I read somewhere that Martin Carthy had said that cheese had created problems for his voice.DickMiles |
Subject: RE: voice and cheese From: CupOfTea Date: 24 Jul 08 - 08:28 AM When he sings "Oh, the Hard Cheeses of England" he doesn't seem to have any problems... I know several singers who've cut out milk & milk products from their diet for this reason. Elderflower tea wasn't on their regimen, but daily use of a neti pot was. Joanne in Cleveland |
Subject: RE: voice and cheese From: sian, west wales Date: 24 Jul 08 - 09:31 AM A lot of actors I know stick to goats' cheese (and milk). Something to do with the size of fat globules or such like - doesn't 'gum up' the voice, so they (the actors) say. sian |
Subject: RE: voice and cheese From: Surreysinger Date: 24 Jul 08 - 10:44 AM Dick - any dairy products are bad for you if you suffer from catarrh ... so that includes cheese, milk, cream etc. I have the same problem. Do you find the elderflower tea works for you ? Not one I've heard suggested before, but I might well give it a go if it's worth it. |

Subject: RE: voice and cheese From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 24 Jul 08 - 04:47 PM Hi Dick. I never use milk products before a gig. Coats the old vocal cords, so the first few songs is an exercise in throat-clearing and loogie-hawking. Embarassing when you're busking... To help clear phlegm, etc off the vocal cords I use candied ginger. Seamus |

Subject: RE: voice and cheese From: Big Al Whittle Date: 25 Jul 08 - 03:15 AM I dunno. They always used to feed cheese to people with TB. I think its good for the lungs. But its just a dumb belief - I have never heard it advanced as a theory. |
Subject: RE: voice and cheese From: Escapee Date: 26 Jul 08 - 01:17 AM I had trouble with my catarrh and switched to banjogh. |
