A big windbag who cannot read his script as well as Ronald Reagan could.

An empty shirt.

A life support system for a mouth.

Note: not many peope out of those 200K in Germany can vote for him, so what's the point?

Pretty good speech.

No, the rest of the world doesn't get to vote in this election. But the sense of global disappointment and resentment that McCain would have to deal with, if he wins, would be quite something.

"...the sense of global disappointment and resentment that McCain would have to deal with, if he wins, would be quite something."

Ah, poor guy. I don't think that will bother him much. Tough little fart, that McCain. Besides, he will have real problems to address in January when he is sworn in.

"Besides, he will have real problems to address in January when he is sworn..."

Whoever is sworn in will have real problems.

Perhaps so. But you are looking at a masterful politician, PDQ, and you are doing a good man a grave disservice with your shallow insults.

He has shown that he can manage things well, and he has shown that he understands the importance of the nations important principles, and how to lead peple.

The man, simply put, is a winner. Nothing empty about him.

Send him in, and let him roll.

Watch the speech.

Obama Malcontents-

I suppose it would be expecting too much of McKain supporters, or even Nader supporters, or Trotsky supporters, to be favorably impressed with Obama's reception in Berlin and the speech he presented.

We (those of us who will be voting for him) may well be overestimating Obama's potential for accomplishing anything significant but it's been a long time since any candidate has generated this much favorable world attention.

Oh, and I think your mothers...

Very good speech indeed. To the Europeans he must seem like a breath of fresh air.

I'm pleased to see an American of note give a speech which, when deconstructed, doesn't boil down to "We gonna kick some ass!"

It's very dangerous to confuse celebrity with leadership, especially in politics. The hundreds of thousands gathering are, in my opinion, gathering to hear him because he is a celebrity politician who isn't a Republican. Also, for the drama of the moment.

But that isn't what genuine political leadership is about.

I'll be voting for Obama, but I have to say, I'm not impressed with him, especially after the way he conducted himself in Israel, and the way he has maintained a Pentagon bubble around himself, separating himself from both the press and the people.

Compare that reception to Bill Clinton's in Northern Ireland. It isn't unprecedented, and it wasn't that long ago that an American president was welcomed in the same way by Europeans.

And meanwhile back at home, in some battleground states, the margin between Obama and McCain is gone, and has become a statistical tie.

Don't mistake crowd size for anything beyond the celebrity/charisma factor and the drama of the moment. At the end of the day, it really doesn't mean all that much. It also doesn't seem to be playing all that well at home, beyond the media echo chamber, that is.

So, if you truly want to see the Republicans out, don't get cocky or arrogant.

DV:

I was not speaking about his celebrity, which is a remarkable phenomenon in itself, completely aside from his actual abilities.

What you see in the Berlin speech, as you saw in the Race speech, and as you saw in several other speeches if yo watched them was the ability to lead people from enthusiasm rather than from fear, and get them willing to put their shoulders to the wheel to help.

What you see is the building of affinities between groups--the supreme test of statesmanship. Where Cheney alienated Europe and Bush looked a fool, Obama is standing tall and speaking well and clearly.

A refreshing change, but more importantly, a much lacking ability in his predecessors.

I must point out one thing. The plural of the word "wall" is not "walls'". It's "walls".

You do not make a plural by adding an apostrophe "s" to the end of a word, or an "s" plus an apostrophe either. You just add an "s", no apostrophes needed. Someone should tell this to a whole lot of storeowners and signwriters. ;-)
